Quick synopsis,
Donald humor came through as well as his narcissism.
Not much new was said.
Talked about Israel and their iron dome said the US should build the same. I got the sense this was pure spiralling but I'm sure something the media will run with.
Talked about waste in government spending. Elon suggested a committee looking at efficiency. I got the feeling it would be something akin to our PBO but with teeth. Elon offered to help be a part of it. Trump joined about the job he did after privatizing X and the massive cuts with no loss to efficiency.
Elon also talked of deregulation. Travis and high speed trains in tunnels was a theme (Vegas has something on a small scale apparently).
Lowering the cost of energy, a reoccurring theme for Trump. 1) reducing domestic costs of energy inputs to increase production, 2) lowering world energy prices to destabilize despots in the Middle East. 3) Nuclear but has bad name recognition after Fukushima, Elon dispelled many of the dangers. Trump recommended a better name, maybe name it after Elon (yes he has a sense of humor).
Discussion on environment. Elon believes we need to clean up our act but not in the dire urgency many currently proposed. Sees a long term hydrocarbon market and no need for self imposed economic stress over the issue. Got weird when discussing CO2 levels.
Immigration, legal immigration is good, illegal immigration is bad. Not every illegal immigrant is a bad person but the fact some are justifies strict border controls.
Shut down Federal Education and turn it over to the States. Loose control on minimum curriculum but other wise let individual States over see education. My take, this is Federal offloading of difficult departments. There was no discussion of how it gets funded other than a general idea that larger and more liberal States would have a harder time with their programs than smaller more conservative States. Again a spiralling idea out of nowhere.
I feel that Trump doesn't have a firm grasp on the decimal point placement or number of zeros when talking numbers and to him it doesn't matter. It is either a big number or a small number. He has people to deal with these details. As long as he has a sense of scale and an understanding of the concept he's good.
