I think Ohgren might be the Canucks overall best forward all things considered since his acquisition.

Does not show up in points but kid can skate, is physical and gives a shit every shift.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the trade. I get the need for Rossi, but was there a possibility of a 2027 1st as you suggest instead of Ohgren?

Only a short while ago, the talk was a hybrid retool, so young players made sense. Now suddenly the tank has made a U-turn towards a rebuild... more bullets are better then.

Of course, 5 picks are better than 4.

Anyway, I'm just hockey talking.

Our resident donkeys are said to have wanted Ohgren in his draft year.

Guerin said the ask was:

Top 6 centre
An NHL ready forward
A top end young D
A first rounder

....my guess is they asked for Ohgren as part 2.

Guerin said the 4 assets he gave up were his first offer.

So yeah...I imagine Humpty and Dumpty did not even bother bartering further...

..also....I do not believe the Wild own a 2027 #1.

They do, it is their 2nd RP they don’t have, according to puck pedia

I was trying to find out also. Only found this:

2026's second-round pick (Gustav Nyquist trade)
2027's second-round pick (David Jiříček trade)

I'll take theman's word.

What's done is done. I'm just doing my share of Baldy-bashing :)

It can still be two 1sts when in a couple of years we'll realize Rossi's age doesn't align with the new core.

Just hope he boosts his own trade value by then.

I'm fine with Ohgren over a 1st.

Hopefully this Andersson trade gets other teams moving and Canucks can make some more moves.

Anybody watch Hughes' first game in Minny? They had Guerin in the booth for most of the 2nd period and he was very candid about how the trade went down. Pretty much what Donny said in that he offered his best package as first offer and JR accepted right right away.

What struck me is when he followed up by saying "thank God he didn't ask for more".

Translation: thank God I didn't have to give up more.

When I heard that I had little doubt we coulda squeezed something more if our guy didn't have Kramer-esque negotiation skills. Would it hurt to ask if not for another future 1st, maybe a 2nd or even 3rd/4th...or get creative with a performance/signing based conditional pick? Pretty sure BG would've at least been open to discussion based on his tone.

Or just say I'll get back to you and maybe he comes back with something extra (not like that package was going anywhere else). Every bit of capital you can squeeze is critical to this team right now. Lucky he didn't offer coffee for life.

Yeah...good post 'Tuzzi.

It would be no shock our intrepid leaders potentially didn't put the screws to him when they had the chance.

I commented at the time of the deal that appeared there was no negotiation from the senile old fart

No negotiation presumably.

Yes...appears a good call...
