I'm liking the prospects the Nucks are stockpiling on and for the most part, I like the work of Todd Harvey & his staff thus far. Not sure he's exactly JB lvl yet, but he's definitely making a name for himself. I don't think he drafted anyone that screams bust so far, but don't think he has found anyone that is poised for potential elite superstar either; that being said and I know it's still too early to give final grades, but it looks like he has found lots of guys who have the potential to be very good solid NHLers.
We actually have some promising centres in the pipeline now. Goaltending prospects are kinda ok I guess, but they have potential. Most of our highly rated D-men are just starting to break into the NHL now; if we can draft a couple more D-men with high potential in the upcoming drafts, it would be gravy. We recently drafted a copule wingers who have a chance to be pretty good scorers, but I'm not too worried there. I think wingers are the most least important position. Build a team that is strong down the middle, I don't mind having whatever average joe wingers.
If we can't find that elite player, that's fine by me. Just draft well, make some shrewd trades/signings once in awhile and just build a team with depth in every position, especially down the middle. The primary objective should be just build a team that is hard to play against and be able to roll 4 lines & 3 D.
That being said, I've always been a glass half full kinda guy.

I think only full NMCs can’t be exposed in an expansion draft.
So after this season Lankinen and DeBrusk can be exposed.
After two seasons Hronek can be exposed
After three season Boeser and Demko can be exposed (Demko’s contract ends).
The only other player with a NMC is Pettersson, and his goes for five more seasons until his contract ends.
RJ will be working to trade some of these players along the way, so NMCs shouldn’t be a huge problem if expansion happens.

It's mind blowing that those imbeciles actually signed Thatcher Demko of all people to a three year contract.

...and, lest we forget, while with the other limp wrist signing Shank-it-in to perhaps the worst goalie contract in the league.
Hope for future...little
High end talent...not really
Cup contender soon...lofl
Quality management team...unknown
Leagues worst goalie contracts...winner, winner Chicken dinner...

Doesn't Demko have some trade value if he retains health and form? Think of it as using our cap space to buy a lottery ticket

Might actually be a good thing. If he starts the season he'll be injured well before the trade deadline. The later he starts the later he peaks (yeah, I know I'm being wildly optimistic).

I am with you on that ride.
I wouldn't want to bet much on it, but it is at least theoretically possible that for some part of this upcoming season, Demko is good enough for long enough that some team believes that he can be their Final Piece, and is willing to part with a significant asset set to acquire him.
In the not-particularly-likely event that happens, re-signing him will have turned out to have been a good decision.
I actually have more hope for that than for Pettersson to recover enough of his game to make his contract moveable -- though I continue to hope for that, too.
