It all depends on what happens with the german. If he isn't signed before the trade deadline, what do the Oilers do? Do you trade him to cash in on some assets? Do you run with him into the playoffs with the possibility of him leaving at the end of the season for nothing, for a chance at a cup? It will be interesting to see how the whole situation is handled. Personally, I hope they keep him and don't win the cup, then he walks away for nothing.

If they are close they don’t trade him and risk losing him. It’s the price contenders pay.
