If you are Canucks management, do you not want 8 years ? If so, how much extra are you willing to pay to get them ?

I wouldn't be opposed to a bridge contract.
Horvat is a nice young player for us, certainly a building block and part of the future core. But I don't see him as a superstar player, or even a bonafide 1C on a good team. I think the Canucks should be pushing for the bridge deal (3 years), keeping him an RFA for his next contract.
Climbing towards $6M+ on an 8-year deal really hems us in if he produces at a 2C/45-point pace. I imagine we'll have the opportunity to draft at least 1-2 more impact players over the next couple seasons, who will look to Horvat's deal as a comparable or even a floor. We run the risk of mimicking the Oilers cap structure pre-McDavid, where everyone that showed a flash of promise got $6M per and by the time the real star arrives we'd need to deal them away at a discount because we overpaid them up-front.

Very true, very true.
The Canucks cap situation changes drastically in 3 years anyways - certainly no Sedins, no Edler, no Markstrom, 1 year left of Sutter and Tanev, 2 years of Eriksson.

Linden was quoted as saying they don't want to sign him to 8 years.
And Benning said the contract will be dealt with later in the summer late august iirc, I have no clue what they are about to do, best guess is a 2 year bridge in the 3's, or a 6 year contract around 5.

Arizona Coyotes defenceman Jakob Chychrun underwent successful knee surgery Thursday and will be out indefinitely.
Chychrun suffered the injury during off-season training. He is expected to make a full recovery and the Coyotes will provide an update once training camp begins on Sept. 14.

That sucks for the kid. He is too damn young to miss basically an entire season rehabbing a knee.

Real shitty news. I mean a real bummer:
CHICAGO – Former NHL forward and coach Eddie Olczyk has been diagnosed with colon cancer.
Olczyk, who turns 51 on Aug. 16, had surgery last week, and Chicago Blackhawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry says he "will be undergoing further treatment in the coming weeks, including chemotherapy." Olczyk is a colour analyst for Blackhawks games and nationally for NBC.

Eddie O is one of the good guys. A good playing career and now a very good broadcaster. Cancer is a bitch. Hopefully they get it in time.

They had to do it.
Now, it's a dynasty and everyone will want to play there for less than their worth.
Bastards.....

Once the McJesus contract kicks in, they'll have 14 mil in cap space with only 13 players signed including and even slower Lucic. That leaves them with approx 1.4 mil per player.
They need to win the cup next year otherwise there will be no dynasty.
