Mëds wants some sort of positive move to cease the folly that currently exists throughout the political realm thus creating some form of normalcy in our lives as well as for his children to hopefully have a shot at the freedoms and positivity we all enjoyed.

Hank thinks they're all criminals and equally guilty amongst the group whether it's Putin and the CCCP, Xi JingPing and the PRC, Netanyahu, Hezbollah, the IRG or Joe fucking Biden (lets keep Trudeau out of this as one puppet, or should I say muppet, in the conversation is plenty).

Topper is on board with none of the current NA political (or potential) leaders and is looking beyond all the frontrunners in an effort to support (or at least believe in) someone who not only espouses a series of reasonable platforms for the betterment (or at least status fucking quo with respect to the high times of NA politics and lifestyle opportunity) of the western (if not world) citizen base but who also doesn't get into a room with the others and start squawking like a petulant 3 year old who can't have their lollipop before dinner.

Donny, we need a place to post this shit, and trolling/baiting/insults just comes with the territory. Thick skin required, nobody needs to read this thread, and all that.

Coming back to the point, I think the deeper issue is whether democracy has reached the end of its useful lifespan. Just looking at the US, there's a realization that the current structures / processes are not working anymore. From the right it is a complete mistrust (or is it distrust, Doc?) of the election process (probably misplaced, but that's beside the point). From the left it's clear that the checks and balances that keep rampant corruption out of the system are not enough anymore. Trump has pushed the boundaries that far.

But the US seems stuck and unable to change. The primacy of the US Constitution ensures this. For example gun rights. Doesn't matter how many elementary school shootings there are, I don't think there will ever be meaningful changes. And this seems to apply everything else as well. There's been only one amendment made in the last 50 years so when is the next one going to happen? Not very soon is my guess. Everything is so polarized and dysfunctional and I don't think it's entirely due to Trump.

Bottom line is that democracy, like anything else, needs to evolve, but is unable to do so. Anything that can't evolve will eventually die.

Appreciate the post 5th, well stated whether one agrees or disagrees.

IMHO blaming Trump (not you because you speak to this point towards the end of your post) for the current failings of the USA in its entirety or the complete disconnect from citizenship realities with respect to their political processes minimizes actualities.

Even "if" Trump has pushed boundaries to the degree you suggest, or imply, the "other sides" reactions are equally (if indeed not arguably moreso) divisionary.

It's a mess.

I've lived my life based on a premise of take care of your own house first and then move beyond.

In extremely simplistic terms lose the mortgage before spending 200K on a Mercedes or staying at the 4 Seasons on the Big Island and NEVER go into debt while doing those things.

Take care of you and yours before taking care of others.

It's gotten me to a place in my life where I can wake up on a Saturday and flip Brian and his site 500 bucks and not blink an eye while doing so.

This is not stated out of arrogance or braggadocia, it's just fact, it's where I am in MY world, doesn't make me better or worse than anyone, it just is (and I do not mean to imply others here do not have the wherewithal to do the same).

My point?

The good ol' US of A (and Canada) need to hit the brakes, get back to their roots and take care of their internal issues and growth before funding wars worldwide with billions of dollars they don't have.

Take care of the homestead first and foremost!

Canada's Natural resource base, as well know, is such that we should be an economic leader in the world and not dealing with the financial struggles many of our population are.

But.

Not going to happen.

So, in summary....

Things as they are will never change to the degree they need to whether it's a muppet, an orange dude, a smells like sulphur greaseball from California, a Ramaswamy or a Kennedy in charge.

We can trade barbs, post memes, argue about Trump and NATO and whether the Western world is "really" protecting democracy in the Ukraine or funding their own internal war mongering engine while further enriching the billionaire elites who hold the real power but, as Led Zeppelin said, the song remains the same.

As I stated above....it's a mess.
