Recent history suggests offer sheeting is not a good idea. However, the Dallas organization must be thinking more about trades as a result of his RFA status. They may be willing to give up a promising young talent for a veteran who improves play off potential. :mex:
Hansen? We don't have too many " veteran who improves play off potential".
Motivation for Dallas to trade with Van is the tough part. However, if Nichushkin is still RFA when Dallas discovers they haven't yet fixed defensive deficiencies - a deal might be done. It's a bit of along shot, but Edler might be packaged.

Nichushkin fits the bill to satisfy Benning's desire to find a 2LW (to take some scoring load off Baertschi). Nichushkin has size, skill, speed & youth.

Gardiner is a smaller one.

Leafers say they're great... but notice Leafers are always throwing them into trade deals.

JVR is coming back from his second major injury to his left foot.

Gardiner had a fluke season fancy-stat-wise IMO.

I hate them both with a passion (especially Gardiner).

But carry on... :D

When in doubt, just don't trade with Toronto. Nothing good goes in, or comes out of Toronto
Nothing except more superstar NHL players than any city produces on planet earth.
How about Örnsköldsvik? :look:

Actually, if by "Toronto" you mean Ontario, you may be on to something.
But how many are from actual Toronto?

Andersen to miss 3-4 weeks with upper body injury. I thought it was his knee but guess not. This of course puts him conveniently ready for the start of training camp. I suspect this is more precautionary and the laughs want to ensure he is ready to go so this way they can keep him out of the WC.

Good move on their part

Found the Canucks new LW, Kris Versteeg - a UFA now thanks to insurance complications.
DarrenDreger

Kris Versteeg is about to be a free agent again. Due to insurance complications Versteeg is expected to return to North America this week.

He is a right winger. Still, if the price is right, and the term is short....

True, but he can play LW, but yeah RW most likely, one or two years, $1.5M per.

So.

Sedins - Hansen

Eriksson - [Sutter/Horvat] - Versteeg

Hansen/Eriksson swap spots.

If he's healthy and they're keeping him out... well that's gonna brew discontent no?

I hear it's his right shoulder.

Watch leafers blame this injury (it lingers they'll say) when Andersen's sv% craters behind that horrid dee.

I really wanted the Canucks to make a play for this guy, way back after his first tenure with the Hawks.
Only 30 years old but seems like he's been around for ever.
So very inconsistent now it seems a long shot h can ramp it up enough.
I suppose JB should have a chat with him if it gets to that point but at this stage, Id be hesitant.. :|

Been reported that the Canucks didn't contact Versteeg's agent, so that's a no go.
@NEWS1130Sports 7:30am

Kris Versteeg getting calls from NHL teams about PTO, the Canucks are not one of the teams that have called his agent.

New story http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/nhl ... -committee Talking about our grittier fellas, Dorsett, Guds and the rising mucker upper Virtanen.

I can see why the Canucks didn't sign the smaller players available towards this latter part of the offseason as they got their sights set on a bigger/grittier top 6 winger. They missed out on Ladd, Lucic and Brouwer, so they are keeping their options open for any potential deal this season.

That or they want a younger winger, for example rfa Rieder.

Oh well. I might have talked to KV about a PTO.

About grit: In his third year, I think Horvat may start throwing his weight around more. Maybe even some good scrums. It's just one more element to becoming the leader we all hope he's headed for.

Any supporting evidence on this, or have you just started hitting the triangle button on the PlayStation controller more?

He was a presence in junior and he is physically a strong dude. Just seems like a natural evolution.
More than anything though, it's just a matter of mess with me and I'll mess with you.
Bo has the tools and he shouldn't need an enforcer on his line to do his thing.

I'm not saying be Dorsette or anything... ;)

In this, his contract year, adding an element of asshole to his game will only enhance his likeliness of stardom.

Oh my god. What will happen, the leaves will then get another top pick and add to their #1 status for top prospect pools?
