Bolland is owed 16.5 million over the next three seasons. Is he done ? I'm not sure but in his day he was a damn good player and if he regains his form of 2008-2013 this is a steal for Phoenix.

Bolland is still recovering from his injury and is not expected to be ready for the start of the season. This was another salary dump for Florida. The second round pick in 2017 is conditional upon Crouse making the team and playing "x" games. Don't know what "x" is. So this trade could end up being two 3rds.

Those analytics guys still cleaning house.

I know, parallels are a useful tool but hockey players are often just so different from year to year with no apparent reason.

Anyways Bolland has been averaging 34 games per year over the last 4 seasons, he's cracked bloberino's infamous 40pts mark once, while in the glorious blackhawk dynasty days years ago.
He's a LTIR type every year, it's why the Panthers offloaded that atrocious contract with their high pick 2015 11th overall first round pick Lawson Crouse whom I'm guessing they are not high on Crouse ceiling with his mediocre stats from juniors on out, so they ditch DB's contract clean, while paying for it with Crouse (the poor analytics guy)

Similar to blackhawks Teraveinen with Bickell.

One thing I haven't explored was teams with expansion draft issues, looking into the Ottawa Senators seems they could have too many forwards and are worried about losing Methot, ergo they are interested in trading a forward for another bottom dman type.

I'd target Puempel or *looks around* see's Royal Dude is gone for a bit - Curtis Lazar, BC boy, buy low I say, I read on their boards they were interested in Hutton for Lazar, but the smart ones know that's not doable, as Hutton is worth more, but I think we could use one of our depth dmen + a forward prospect (expansion protected) for one of their forwards they can't protect.

I'm comparing them because Elmer ditched a 2nd and 3rd for Pedan and Vey which was the cost for Phoenix. If the Canucks had kept Bonino and not acquired, then grossly overpaid Sutter, they could have easily taken on a shitty contract for a high end prospect like Crouse.

Bolland is done. Hell, even the Leaves gave up on him. Crouse was the cost of dumping Dave's contract on one of the only teams willing to eat that turd.

Panther's have cap to go for it now.

I thought I heard Bolland was out for the season. I would think if he doesn't play, insurance will cover his salary won't it? Either way the Coyotes got another excellent young prospect for taking on a cap hit that they can afford.

Assuming Bolland's contract is insured, I'd say it's a pretty good trade for both teams.

Since the turn of the millenium, there's been a slight change in where the players in the NHL come from.

In 2000/01 some 55% of skaters were Canadians, 30% European and 15 % from the USA. In the years since, the number of American players has increased, challenging both the Canadian and European contingents, and in 2015/16 the numbers were closer to 50% Canadians and 25% each of Euros and Yanks.



Meanwhile, within the European Group there has been a huge shift. Since the start of the KHL the number of Russians, Czechs, Slovaks and Finns has fallen while the Swedes have been picking up the slack; the number of Swedish NHL skaters has gone up 68% from 44 in 00/01 to 74 (sic!) in 15/16. That's more than there were ever Russians or Czechs in the League.



An even bigger change in the crease. In 00/01 almost two thirds of goalies, or 63%, were Canadian while 20% were European and 17% American. Last season European goalies outnumbered Canadians!
There were 42% European goaltenders, 38% Canadians and 20% from the USA. The biggest increase is in Finnish and Swedish goalies, these countries now have eleven goalies each in the NHL. The total of Scandinavian NHL goalies reaching 23, as there is also a Dane in Anaheim.

Finland isn't a member of Scananavia.
