I think most assume Hamhuis won't waive.Topper wrote:Why not Hamhuis instead of Garrison or Edler? Tanev is most like Hamhuis and could take up that spot rather than Edler's or Garrison's.
Yeah. Also, I think he's the best guy to keep around to mentor the young'uns.dbr wrote:I think most assume Hamhuis won't waive.Topper wrote:Why not Hamhuis instead of Garrison or Edler? Tanev is most like Hamhuis and could take up that spot rather than Edler's or Garrison's.
Hamhuis is a guy that they might consider moving at the TDL this season or next if they aren't in the Playoffs picture to a contender. But right now, they are operating on the assumption that they are going to make it. I think the reason why Garrison's name is mentioned is that of the three BC NTC boys (Bieksa is a transplanted BCer essentially), Garrison seems like the one guy that would waive his NTC right now to go back to his former team FLA.Topper wrote:Why not Hamhuis instead of Garrison or Edler? Hamhuis is our best defenseman in my opinion. He's also the type of guy you want mentoring the next generation. Why not keep both Hamhuis and Tanev?Topper wrote:Why not Hamhuis instead of Garrison or Edler? Tanev is most like Hamhuis and could take up that spot rather than Edler's or Garrison's.

I guess that doesn't preclude him still trying to get a higher pick, but that will be quite the rabbit to pluck out of his hat.
Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Jim Benning guarantee on Vancouver's No, 6 pick. "We're going to be using that pick." You can bet he won't trade No. 36 either.
It's all in how you can parse those words, I guess. I wager something is being cooked up, Benning's veiled speech notwithstanding.Topper wrote:Using the pick for what?
To trade up? Down? For an established player?
Jim Benning's guarantee: he is not going to forget to show up at the draft, along with the rest of the organization, so that the league has to skip their pick.Topper wrote:Using the pick for what?
