Hockey Widow wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 12:20 am no. Like I said not quit top six. Is bottom 9 better? I don't see us as having a true top six. So bottom nine and top 3??

I see our "top" 6 being Pettersson, Kane, Boeser. Chytle, DeBrusk, Garland.

BTW. You know well what I mean so give it a rest.
Yes Wids. Bottom 9 is better because it is exactly what they are based upon that description. In my original response I actually did not quite get what you meant. Now I do.

I agree. Imho, the Canucks have two top line players in Boeser and Pettersson…..this is heavily predicated upon the assumption that Petey goes back to being the producer he was for the 100 or so games he played in 22/23 and 23/24. Boeser also probably needs to have a bounced back Petey in order for him to score at a true top-line pace.

Kane, Chytil, and DeBrusk, are middle-6 players. The two wingers are best suited in a second line role with the right pivot. While both of them can spot in on a top line, that is very dependent upon who the other guys on said line are.
Chytil is at best a 2nd line center but likely better suited to play in a 3rd line where that trio is expected to produce offense rather than shutdown one of the opponent’s top 2 lines.

Garland is a top-9 player. Not because he’s lesser than the rest, but because he is more versatile and can play on any of a team’s top-3 lines. He can create offense and contribute in a top line role. He can help drive a second line. And he can single-handedly drive a 3rd line. He’s tenacious and good on the forecheck, and he’s positionally smart in his own zone. He could play a 4th line checking/harassing role, but it would be a waste of his talents.

Blueger, Joshua, Hoglander, O’Connor, Karlsson, Sherwood, and Aman, are all bottom-6 guys. And truly most of them are good enough to be 3rd line players on most teams. I’d say that only Aman and Karlsson are true 4th liners.

The guy who retired after the 2024 season? Bring back Dank instead. We know they are in shape.
He didn't retire, he went back to Mother Russia on a 4-year deal.

(averaged a point per game in an injury-ravaged season)

The fact the KHL has already seen enough of him, means nothing, nothing I say!

Well it could mean he still parties like Nick Nolte in his prime. :look:

But you pays yer minimum-salary one-year contract, you takes your chances.

If by some miracle he's reformed and finally ready for serious hockey, well you have a solid 2nd line centre.

If not, flush twice.

So, sign kuzzy mk2, hang onto Chytil, and keep which ever one can play the game. It would be a giant leap of faith boardering on stupidity to dump Chytil before knowing if kuzzy has the goods.

I know lots of people don't like/trust Chytil's skills/health. I think it's an acceptable risk, and we don't have the cap space to really address 2c without taking from somewhere else. It's not like Buttman is returning the 9 mil of cap space they stole from the Luongo fuckening. Hey, that's a good April Fools joke.

But wtf. Maybe kuzzy mk2 can still play. Give him a shot, and stock up on scratch tickets, in case you are on a lucky streak.

I don't have a problem with hanging on to it and having a little cap space for a change. Wait it out, see if anyone's out there - or wait for a trade that might involve us taking back some cap.

McTavish still hasn't signed, BTW... ;)

Cap space isn't a bad thing to have this time of year.

I guess I used “we” loosely… lol

Edit: I too am no longer throwing piss out the window. We just purchased our last house (we hope) and spent every penny we had +

Just because the light comes on in the freezer doesn’t mean it’s not freezing!

With the $$$ you save you could spend it floating around Campbell river all winter in your live aboard. Plus summers out here are pretty nice you have to admit

Yesterday at Standard Building they were stocking the shelves (winterizing) with space heaters, tarps, pop up tents, etc., it just made me depressed. The older I get the more I hate old man winter so living in the colder parts of Canada during the winter would be hell for me.

I hear ya, we get the extremes out here - 100f in the summer, cold as fuck in the winter. I can still function when hot out, but the freezing temps kill all motivation.
