Options offered were a bit flawed.

I think his ceiling would be a 2nd pairing d-man.
More likely outcome is a 3rd pairing d-man.

Agreed. The survey question lowballs his ceiling. The rate with which he is improving would suggest the potential to be a #2/3 in the most optimistic scenario. My guess is that three years from now Big Pete is a very dependable #4.

He's 21 a month ago. Chris Tanev was undrafted. Played at 21 and has been a top pairing D man for over a decade.

Alex Edler had 8 - 10 years as a top pairing D man as an unheralded pick. Willie Mitchell. Many players find their way later and his skating can still improve. It has already.

How many D men from EP2's draft have played in the league?

The kid’s a minor stud out there, for sure. Could he replace MP3 when MP3’s contract comes up? I would hope so, and I think it’s doable as he spends time learning while playing with the big club.

I think what will limit him from being anything more than a #4 is his hockey IQ. Defensively, he can think it well enough; offensively? He seems to make the good plays but no real great plays. That said, he moves the puck with a pro confidence.

Even so, that is found money for management hitting on a 3rd round pick.
