Strick isn't the type to pull things out of his ass. I can see 36 teams easily. 20 teams making playoffs. Look at the markets they are floating. Atlanta, Scottsdale,,Houston, Toronto. All massive cities with huge tv revenues and adverting money. It's coming and I'd bet it's in the next ten years. Gohmert might make a comeback. Remember he had to choose between the WHA and the NHL.

Elliot Friedman

NHL/NHLPA have reached an agreement on Robin Lehner/Vegas.

Simplest way to put it is this: Lehner’s contract will not count against the cap, but he will still be paid his salary.

“Unique situation,” as all sides have indicated

Lofl… omfg…. What a joke

BoS wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 9:13 am Bettman met with the media yesterday.

The league is hopeful the salary could again go up as much as $4.5 for 25/26. Seems plausible given the move from Arizona to Utah. Even if the team breaks even, it’s already a win given the black hole that franchise has been on the league for years.

The current CBA expires in Sept ‘26. Bettman expect talks to resume in early ‘25 and feels optimistic a new deal could be struck as early as next June.

Players have suggested a reduction of preseason games to 4, while adding an additional 2 games in the regular season to 84. This is all preliminary of course, but seems like the two sides are in a good place.
Yup, the salary cap is set to explode.

Getting Petey, DeBrusk, Miller, and Hronek wrapped up long-term was the way to go.

Now, IF we extend Boeser, make it "lockout proof" and give him extra term, both to bring down the AAV.

You add another Norris in either of those years, that is virtually guaranteed. That said, in that case he will be worth it regardless of term.

Yup, but the good news is we'll be able to afford it.

Wait, he isn't going to win the Art Ross in 24-2025?

And he will be worth it.

I've always had in the back of my head that he might want to join his brothers someday. There are lots of siblings in the NHL throughout the years, and it hasn't been a ton of this playing together stuff. But the Hughes brothers seem exceptionally close, to each other and their parents. They all (parents included) live and breathe this game. I can just see them making a pact one summer while playing street hockey as kids, after one of them scores the Stanley Cup clinching goal, that some day they should do it for real, on the same team.

I even thought that this thought isn't just mine, and that the decision to make Hughes the captain last season was partly influenced by this possibility. He was a good (not perfect) candidate for the role either way, to be sure. But the impression I get is that Hughes is motivated by loyalty, reciprocity, passion for the game, growth -- in addition to what motivates almost all NHL players (money, competitiveness). Making Hughes captain demonstrates some of that from the club to Hughes, and it also increases the sense of loyalty Hughes has to the club -- its his club. Add that this coaching staff is a great mix of older school values with a modern mindset of learning and adjusting, and its all stuff that must be appealing to Hughes.

Bottom line, the Canucks have done everything they could do to date to create a place where Hughes will want to re-sign. And of course they can (and I suspect will) offer the 8th year and they won't low ball him. But if Quinn Hughes, from a close knit hockey family, elects to live out the dream of close knit hockey brothers, well, could you blame him?

That’s why management should trade Pettersson + for Jack Hughes.

and with the other two already on the team Quinn would sign to, it's really quite incredible how easy it would be for them to make it happen. And Jersey is a very up-and-coming team who's Vegas betting odds in the top 5 to win the cup.. and that's with their young players not even in their prime yet. It's not like they are going to have to sacrifice being on a contender team to play together.

not that we need a quote from Quinn to know he'd enjoy playing with his brothers, but he actually did say it out loud in an interview once that it would be great for them all to play together at some point in their careers, adding fuel to the fire.

I share your concern, luckily it's a ways down the road.

U-dub, I have had the same thoughts exactly.

I believe it stems somewhat from... as Raile mentioned... something Quinn said.

Along with the obvious closeness between the bros that you mentioned.

why do the paperwork?? justy so you can still hate a smaller, super skilled forward who is hurt a lot???
