9 previous warnings, fines or suspensions, mostly for illegal hits to the head. BOOM goes the 10th infraction.

If the Sharks only had a life coach for poor misunderstood Raffi.......

I believe there was some rumours of dressing room conflict... but I can't say for sure.

Torres is the kind of take-no-prisoners that legitimately scares the opposition. This guy will scramble your eggs and not bat an eye. He's a perfect 4th liner and seems to come up clutch when it counts. Him and Mike Brown have really allowed San Jose to elevate their physical game.

1. Do you think the Keith Ballard trade was reasonable?
Yes. Sure blew up in our faces, though.
2. Do you think the Derek Roy trade was reasonable?
Yes. Sure blew up in our faces, though.
3. Do you think the way Gillis handled the Luongo/Schneider situation was reasonable?
No. Pick a goalie and make a move, don't announce it to the world and sit on it for half a decade.

4. Do you think giving Luongo that contract after that first Hawks series was a good move?
Yes. Was, and still is, a premier goalie in the NHL. Not our fault the CBA retroactively punished creative thinking.

5. Do you think making Luongo the captain was a good movie?
No. Dumb move.
6. Do you think not buying out Booth last summer was a good move (or wait was he hurt?)...how about are you okay with David Booth, period?
Injured, couldn't buy him out. Got him for nothing, can't imagine him playing worse than he has. Hard to fault Gillis for trying.
7. Do you think Kassian for Hodgson was a good move? If so, do you think Kassian is a smart hockey player?
Unsure. Leaning towards no. Might have had to trade Hodgson, could've gotten someone other than Kassian. Hodgson was a prime prospect, Kassian might be a valuable player, but everyone knows they take time and can go sour. I think Gillis could've done better, although Kassian is the type of player most teams need more of (physical + Skilled)
8. Do you like the return for Luongo?
Thank you CBA.
9. Do you like hiring of Torts?
Ambivalent. Country club had to end.
10. Are you okay with letting guys like Erhoff, Salo, Samuelsson, and Torres walk over the years (this is a bit of softball)?
Ehrhoff: contract was ridiculous. Salo: 208 years old. Samuelsson: Bandaid. Torres: Nope, should've kept him.

Island Nucklehead wrote: Yikes. 1/2 the season for that hit? I dunno, would not be surprised to see an appeal.
The Sharks employ a head coach, multiple assistant coaches, a goalie coach, strength & conditioning coaches, etc...yet no "hitting technique" coach. This could have all been avoided and saved the Sharks from losing a player for half the season. I mean, it can't just be the fact that Raffi doesn't get it, right? :P

EDIT - LOL , Topper beat me to the jab!

It's old news, but Samuelsson was traded, they didn't let him walk. That's not even a good question.

Torres, at the time, was worth keeping as letting him go was a step in the direction of becoming pushovers with no bite. The player himself was probably wrong, but he should have been replaced by someone similar (who could hit without getting suspended).

Two reasons Torres was not kept. One, he tried to play hard ball on term and cap. Canucks considered brining him back for one more year. Second reason was he was not liked in the dressing room. They risked having a couple of other FAs not coming back if Torres was on the team. His off colour, sexual and sexist manner of speaking, banter and joking and behaviour offended many of the Canuck players at the time.

It wasn't his on ice performance or behaviour that drove him out of Vancouver.

As for the 41 games, good. He is a multiple repeat offender. He clearly never got the message. While I celebrate that the NHL has finally sent a strong message it is tempered with knowing that it is easy for them to send this kind of message to a washed up 4th line player with a reputation than it is to set a precedent. This probably would have been his last season.

For SJS, they are stuck with his cap and he takes up a roster spot. I like that too.

41 Games....WOW
Good. Kassian needs company.

41 games - I guess the big question is will league continue with strong penalties for headshots? Will we see any consistency this year?

(Shitty week to be an ex-Canuck)

Mason Raymond on waivers.

No Kidding. Derek Roy released from his tryout with the Caps. Booth snipped from the Panthers. Kassian falling off/out of the powerwagon. Raymond and Stanton waived.

At least Eddie Lack got a raise.

Might put Blobby in a chipper mood if we pick up Stanton on the waiver wire

I would only be happy if Puka was waived and picked up as well . There is not much chance of him being waived however ,and even less chance of him actually being claimed . It's laughable nobody took a chance on Linden Vey . Ignitowski equates him to a 2nd round pick while 29 other managers wouldn't give up a contract spot for him .

Far be it from me to be a JB defender, but I have to admit, at the time, I thought that trade was a good risk to take. Sadly, Vey didn't pan out and I very much doubt he will at this point, but, given my original sentiment on the trade, I can't really criticize the initial deal.

Who knows. If Vey figures out how to play with his extra 12 lbs, he could be a very solid 3rd liner. It's too early to write him off completely. Some time in the AHL might boost his compete level, and overall effort

Corrado picked up on waivers by the leaves. Leaves send Harrington to the Marlies. Leaves recall Harrington and scratch Corrado. Grabner also scratched.
Matthias makes the line up.
Corrado can't crack leaves top six. Wonder when they waive him?

The St. Louis Blues on Wednesday signed center Scott Gomez to a one-year contract and placed center Patrik Berglund on long-term injured reserve. Be round out with a shoulder injury.

Add him to the list of ex-Canucks they seem to get all sticky thinking about in Tarana. New Head Office staff. Same old losing traditions.
