Yeah at 8.35 he's not being paid Superstar D level at this point...especially when the cap jumps over the next few years (which is why you want + + in a theorized EP deal of course).....

You have to remember you can't truly assess young Sabres players and prospects until they get traded.

It's almost like cleaning a Bob Ross painting and discovering a Rembrandt underneath the layers.

I don't think Power will blow anyone away with a high-end single skill but will become a very good overall defender. This franchise has been begging for good top 4 defenders that can eat up minutes and stay healthy. Byram is a known gamble, but Power could live up to expectations in another few years. Hell, Dahlin might be a Norris candidate by now if he didn't toil in Buffalo.

If he could play RD well enough to at least be 2nd pairing, I would be more interested in him (if I were the Canucks). Not so much as if he can only play LD.

If you're picking at Buffalo's bones the ask has to be Dahlin if you're sending Pettersson. Broaden the group to include Willander and Cozens so everyone gets a replacement asset for the same position.

Buffalo has lost again, they must be getting desperate. If the Canucks do want to do a 'culture change (fix the Miller/Petey rumoured issues)' in the dressing room and move on from Pettersson's 11.6 M, they could be ideal partners.

Thinking more about it, I would for sure try to get Dahlin, 1st (maybe multiple ones or a couple mid rounders), Top 6 forward and a blue chip prospect. As CS said, if you need to include Willander or another D prospect to get it down, do it.

Something like:

to Buffalo: Pettersson, Willander, low mid round pick(s)
To Vancouver: Dahlin, Corzens, blue chip prospect, 1st in 2025 (unprotected) another 1st or mid round picks

As the loses pile up Lever, Buffalo could get desperate for a change.

Also important is that, in this hypothetical scenario, Pettersson has no control over this trade. If you are concerned about his fit in this team (Vancouver) now is the time to look into a possible trade.

Dahlin is probably the only untouchable on yet another shit shoe season by the Sabres. He ain’t going nowhere. Everyone else? Can be had, maybe not Thompson, Benson, Kulich, Peterka, Helenius and Levi as well, but everyone else should be available

The Sabres have been picking top ten in the draft since I can’t even remember. They currently have the 4th worst record in the NHL. Just got smoked tonight by the 3rd worst team in the league - Montreal. It must be the city. Eichel and Reinhart have won Stanley cups since being traded from there. Truly an awful organization.

...and yet the Bills are highly successful.

Rumour has Pegula addressing the team personally shortly after providing a vote of confidence to Adam's and Ruff (Death Knell?).

Something dramatic needs to happen there.

Unfortunately it won't be Dahlin coming our way.

But even the Bills have had close to two decades of futility before recently having success in the regular and postseasons.
