Sheesh, what does that say about new regime's opinion of Burke/Nonis drafting? That's almost a quarter of a farm team dumped in one shot.
For a player originally drafted by Nonis.

Not really. They traded away guys they felt were long shots to make the NHL to free up four contracts. They will use those contracts to sign guys on PTOs that they think will return picks at the TDD.
So... trade PROSPECTS for players no one wants in the hope they will be wanted at the TDD?

And... if those players are wanted at the TDD, get some late round picks which are actually PROSPECTS.

Weeeeee.....

But lemmee guess, Leaf fans are buying into this. :mex:

So are we Leaf-haters supposed to cheer for the Leaves to make the playoffs now? :?

Things that make you say "WOT DA FOCK??"

Today the Blackhawks called a press conference to announce that, after talking to his lawyers

... an alleged rapist will indeed take part in their training camp.

Then they had the alleged rapist to talk to the press about anything other than the alleged rape. :?

Yeah, remind me to not bother listening to any more "press conferences"....

I really appreciate your question, I do, but I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about hockey.

You really expected him to talk about the rape case in a press conference??? Yeah, that would be smart.

No, I didn't expect he would. What I didn't like was the Hawks saying after consulting with Kane's lawyers they decided it was ok for Kane to attend camp. There is a strong inference there. i mean I sure felt he was being set up after hearing that. What did they expect his lawyers to say.

Sorry, should have quoted as that was meant in response to Doc. Sounds like he expected the press conference to be a bit more juicy.

I kinda get what you are saying, but I don't see why he shouldn't attend camp as he's presumed innocent. What reason(s) can a lawyer give for not attending a hockey camp?

A press conference was called because an alleged rapist was invited to camp.

My question is: Why call a "press conference"... if the alleged rape isn't going to be discussed.

Hell, Kane wouldn't even say to what degree the allegations (true or false) might effect him and the team.

A massive press team turned up for this "press conference about nothing".

Too bad they're not as smart as you, they could've saved their time. :)

The NHL, by way of the CBA, can suspend any player during the course of a criminal investigation. This case has been sent back to grand jury as allegedly settlement negotiations have broken off, with both parties feeling victimized.

This case is a huge distraction and one of serious implications. Suspend him pending completion of investigation.

And I agree with Doc, they held a press conference to explain why he was at camp. Why do that? Issue a fuc£ing press release, like other teams have done in the past, saying they are aware of the allegations and ongoing investigation and are monitoring the situation. Or words to that affect. To announce and then hold a meaningless press conference is a farce.

Friedman speculating that might have been a mistake, and that the Grand Jury might want to hear from McDonough.

Just read some articles on this. Apparently the real farce is they left him on the podium to take questions ... which he never was going to answer. By all accounts he was 'shaken' by the time they excused him from the podium, cos they absolutely drilled him.

Of course he was shaken. They beat him into submission and he admitted his guilt.

"I will be absolved of having done nothing wrong"

Book him Danno.

Sportsnet Reports Seabrook and Blackhawks nearing an extension.
Although still tight to the salary cap (less than $1 million from the ceiling, according to General Fanager), Chicago did free up signing space this summer by parting with Sharp, Johnny Oduya, Brandon Saad and others.

Keith, the team’s best defenceman and the unanimous Conn Smythe winner in 2015, already makes less than Seabrook (Keith carries a $5.538 million cap hit), and it would not be surprising if Seabrook is asking for a deal in the range of, say, Dion Phaneuf’s, which carries a $7 million hit.
