All I know is, Hoss…the more we can help the billionaires the happier I am.
I like Dalsland alot. It's nowhere near as cold as Lappland eitherPer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:29 amIf you want wilderness, a house in Lappland is even cheaper. Moose, bears, lynx and reindeer in the forest and salmon in the rivers. Quite a bit like Canada.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 7:44 pm You can buy these cool houses surrounded by 5-10 acres in southwest Sweden for like 70-100k. Close to big clean lakes, rivers and ocean. I even found one on an island that was I think 60k
There's a lot of city people from continental Europe who want to get away from it all and pick up houses in the outback for next to nothing.
Young people in Lappland tend to move into the cities on the coast, so there's a lot of houses in the woods that can be had really cheap.

I agree with the mobility point, 5th.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 10:45 amIncome equality seems to be treated as the be-all and end-all, but an argument could be made that income mobility is a much better measure of the fairness of a merit-based society.
The problem with income equality is that is measures groups of people as if they are static, when in reality many people move up the income ladder through the decades.
You could argue that the increased income equality just represents the increased opportunity that the US has to offer (assuming income mobility has not decreased).

You know who rigs markets? Governments. Either when they set prices or they set "rules" for competitive that do nothing but encourage market consolidation. As I understand it, there's a lot of that in Canada these days. How is that working?Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 6:34 am Does Elon give two fucks about you?

“Why do so many people feel like they’ve fallen behind? It’s not because of immigrants, trans people, the ‘deep-state’, or any other boogeyman trotted out by the GOP. It’s because corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy’s gains.” - Robert Reich
Never
The person you are asking (and those of his ilk) is too deep in the cesspool of leftist wokeism to objectively look at the situation and see true causality. Rather, the focus is hating on Trump and the political leaders and ideologies on the right side of the aisle. This is exactly what has happened in Canada since 2014 and stepped up massively in 2015 when Trudeau won his first term. 4 years later the economic and societal decline were obvious enough that his majority became a minority in which he didn’t even own the popular vote. A snap election 2 years later gave him the same number of seats but even less of the popular vote share. Because of his partnership with Jagmeet the Vacuous he has managed to drive the bus further into the ditch while fear mongering and spewing hate rhetoric about the evil people who would oppose anything he wants to do.UWSaint wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:10 amYou know who rigs markets? Do you know that those companies combine to employ 544,000 people, meaning that if Reich's numbers you report are correct, the average "profit" earned by the company per employee is $128?
