Rick Tocchet said that the Canucks did not consider shutting down Elias Pettersson this season despite his knee injury.
He also mentioned that Pettersson's injury was tendinitis.

So not an injury. Inflammation of the tendons. Rest is the only recipe. In retro spec they should have shut him down in January and even Feb if needed. Glad he is trying but he didn’t help us when we needed him most. Then again most players would play through and even though we were ok thinking we’d be in playoffs we were fighting for seeding.

Tendinitis can be managed in the short term with drugs.

Sure, it probably hurt, and sucked to go through - but with ice, drugs and a medical team managing it - it shouldn't have affected his performance that badly.

Kind of was hoping it was something a bit more serious, FFS, my Mom used to play tennis through some bad tendinitis in her elbow. I mean come on Petey. Disappointing.

Elias Pettersson says he's been playing with a bad knee since January.
So in January, it was pretty much confirmed we would be in the playoffs, and they didn't rest him.....
This is both great and frustrating to hear.

I stick by my thoughts from the other week that it was both a physical injury and between his ears though. Likely frustrating for him that try as he might it was only getting harder for him to regain his form if the injury was getting worse, leading to increasing frustration.
There is nothing great about it. It means one or some of the following…..

1. The coaching and medical staff are inept morons.

2. The player was more concerned with getting his individual stats in a contract year than he was being there when it really counted…..which it doesn’t for someone focused on their bank account and personal brand because you aren’t getting paid in the playoffs.

3. Tendinitis, If not caused by a single event then this is a repetitive motion injury that has a high likelihood of continually coming back…..which means we have a fragile wafer on our hands that eats up $11.6M of our off-season cap.

4. It’s complete bullshit and the team is letting this story be the cover…..which means the accountability mantra is a hoax.

Anti-inflammatories and rest are the treatment. But even with the NSAIDs (or even steroids) the pain is felt with usage.

Tylenol doesn’t do much for that pain.

So strong enough pharmaceutical pain management would run the risk of making him a little less sharp.

Dude, I battled tendinitis in my elbow (tennis elbow) for months once and it was brutal couldn’t pick anything up at times with it. I got it up from swinging a steel Estwing hammer when framing/forming. It went away when I moved on to the wood Stiletto hammer.

I hear Blob gets his plastic hammers from Princess Auto from the sales bin

Sorry to hear man. Still, doubt you had a medical team to help you manage. But if as Mëds said... rest etc. Why not rest Petey for a few weeks/month then?

Seems strange

Maybe EP40 didn't want to sit out, and nobody was going to force him?

Which says he was, at that point, focused on individual stats for the sake of negotiations in contract year.

Or

That he’s un-coachable and won’t heed advice.

Or

That coaching and management have their balls in a sling.

Or none of the above and he's a warrior who plays through pain and the coaches had to respect that.

$11.6 million scooter boy is a whiny little fuck. Probably sprouts a man bun in the off season. Refuses to take responsibility for his dismal play. This is the guy in the line up with no accountability. Watch him skate, he's knock kneed. Instead of striding from the hips, he strides from the knees. he spreads his feet from the knees. With that unstable base, no wonder he is always knocked down. Maybe if you weren't falling to your knees all the time they wouldn't hurt as much. Go get Forest Gump leg braces and send your mom to get you spot in a power skating school.

I have been consistently calling him out since October as a PP specialist and even strength decoy. Unable to create on his own or make space for himself. Saddled with 4th line wingers because he was playing like a 4th line centre. Those points have been evident for years.

$11.6 million scooter boy brought up the sore knee, Ricky mentioned tendonitis. Neither Ricky nor Robo Swede thought that was an issue. Lack of preparation by many of the players for a long season was the issue cited along with the dismal 4 minute PP (game 7 revisited).

The issue Robo Swede called out was many of the players ignored early season conditioning and preparation for the long haul grind expected of them and the downfall slump post Allstar was a result of that.

Ricky was consistent through all of that stretch, players need to be better, players need to suck it up, everyone is dinged up at this point in the season, players need to be in condition for the long haul.

Hughes, when asked about injury after Nashville targeted him claimed he was just fatigued by the long haul (see Robo Swede's comment).

Robo Swede - "staff was keen on Joshua a couple of years ago and he has really progressed, now they need to find the next Dakota" - Adios muchacho

- called out Hronek's D play, especially in the playoffs, as something that needs to be better if he's back. My take, Hronek suffered most from the attention paid to Hughes, the two were unable to feed off one another both on the breakouts and controlling the blue line in the O zone.

Topper call confirmed in the pressers - Ricky stifled creativity and vowed to loosen up next training camp.

Oh, and fuck me did the hacks ask a bunch of stupid questions.

Log out for a couple of weeks and just try reading the nonsensical drivel posted here. What a cesspool. I spent a couple of weeks posting stats and analysis to stimulate some hockey discussion but fuck all came of it.

Why bother?

Kessler was in the media a few years back talking about what the culture is like of the outside pressure to play through injuries and the will of the player themselves to not want to sit out. I can't find a link but it was pretty eye opening.

I don't know what Petey was thinking but other people saying they do for a fact are out to fucking lunch. Dude's been incredibly competitive and driven his whole career including well before the NHL.
