I'm sure it's been in the works for a bit. Interesting that he's likely trying to trade him in order to get Z, another one of his clients, signed here! I'm guessing he's traded for another player under contract, not quite as expensive and perhaps somebody that can play a bit. Supposedly Mathieu Joseph in Ottawa is available for a cap dump as he makes $3 million a season and they don't want him - somebody like that makes sense to me.

I like that deal. IM65 for Joseph makes sense for the Canucks, especially if there's an idea about how the $1.8M in cap savings gets deployed. Good speed, decent forechecker, quality penalty killer. A similar profile to IM65; I think IM65 plays with a bit more hockey IQ that should allow him to effectively play with skilled players if his skating comes back and his shooting percentage gets out of the tank -- a second liner ceiling if that happens. Joseph I think is a better penalty killer and probably has a game that (IMO) maxes out in the bottom 6, but I can see how he might fit better in Tockey hockey and I think his penalty killing can't be overlooked, especially for a team that hasn't signed its top 3 TOI/gm forward PKers (Lindholm, Blueger, Joshua).

But why does this make sense for the Sens? Joseph might be overpaid by $500K AAV or so -- and there's always a question of how much should you be paying bottom 6 ceiling wingers ever -- but IM65 is overpaid by at least $1M AAV more than that and has a higher downside risk regardless of salary. The Sens would have to value the agent connection significantly (but why would they? Z seems like his own man), or think Joseph is a bit of a cancer (I've never heard this, but don't follow them too closely).
