So Dhaliwal reports Tcchet consulted QH before declining to return as coach.
Coupled with the bizarre comments by Rutherford its pretty clear that the team will be moving him along within the next year - year and a half. I actually hope it's right away.
Rip off the bandaid, rebuild this shitshow

They better not wait to the last minute cause no team not named New Jersey Devils is going to gut their organization to rent Quinn until he signs with Jersey. But ya know the Aqualini’s won’t sign off on trading Quinn, they see him as the saviour to put butts in seats at their beloved Rogers Arena property. The Devils will sit patiently abiding their time for two seasons and then it’s - “come to daddy, Quinn. Your brothers are waiting for you”
One dark horse team to keep an eye on is Detroit. The Hughes family hometown, although Quinn also lives in Florida in the off season. Detroit has the assets to make a move for Quinn feeling they might be able to resign him in two years. Stevie Y is under the gun following Larkin’s comments.
Detroit has the 13th OA pick in 2025 plus some nice prospects like Evidsson, Danielson, Kasper and Sandin Pellika

yeah cuz..
I totally believe that Tocc chatted with QH before he left.. Prolly said some good coachie kinda things because they are friends..
But just because two friends chatted/said 'see ya around' doesn't mean 'consulted', nor does it mean that QH is on the way out.
I have NEVER seen a more toxic media base simply assume shit to stir the pot and run people out of town, or get more clicks. Like seriously, what player would ever want to sign to play here with a bunch of so called 'journalists' being complete twat waffles and running around saying 'sources reported' and dropping opinion pieces as facts with ZERO consequences.. and then after ruining players and coaches (sometimes for years), they brag about how the fake shitshow they created makes them correct.
complete garbage.

What? Rutherford made weird comments? What? Tochett talked to the team's captain in evaluating the past season and considering his own future? Did the sun also rise? Those things are not unusual, and they don't provide any more insight into what QH wants to do in two years as we had before this happened.
I don't think the writing is on the wall for QH. Of course there's anxiety about whether he wants to stick around, and anxiety about losing him for nothing. But it isn't an inevitability, and I really don't think that waiting a season changes his trade value all that much. But what it could do is change his perspective on whether he wants to be part of the future in Vancouver, for good or ill.
As for trade value, the best player recently traded was Rantanen, and the Stars gave up two firsts, two thirds, and a just-turned-22 former second rounder who was in his first full NHL season after a dominant AHL rookie campaign capped by NHL exposure and 19 playoff games, a guy who surely has potential to be a very solid top 6 guy. And that was the rental price. If that's the consolation price for waiting on Hughes -- and I suspect the demand for Hughes will be similarly high -- then I don't think the Canucks lose much if they try to improve their team for next season rather than tear it down.
Also, every team making the investment is going to be in the same place as the Canucks. They won't know if he's going to resign, and they won't be able to sign the dotted line until next offseason. The price might be greater, but they aren't pricing in 10 years of the guy. There's some reason to think a team who thinks they are a Hughes away from the Stanley Cup and know it in February will pay premium.
More than that, I don't want JR to have any part of a rebuild. If the Canucks decide they are moving in that direction, they need to get a new President, who then needs to evaluate Allvin and decide whether he can be the architect. Not all rebuilds are equal. Its not clear to me where in a team's evolution JR's, umm, talents are best suited, but I know its not at the bottom of the curve.

I can't say to an absolute certainty, but rumour has it that the sun set as well that day.

They could have talked about anything. It could just as well have been Tocchet reaching out to Quinn to explain his reasons for leaving and give some parting guidance as Team Captain moving forward. That's just as plausible, given what's public about their coach-captain relationship. It doesn't have to have been anything ominous or "I'm getting out of here, and suggest you do the same" discussion. That doesn't fit his character.
I have NEVER seen a more toxic media base simply assume shit to stir the pot and run people out of town, or get more clicks. Beyond the muck-raking Vancouver-based journos/commentators, what gets me are the eastern-based vultures who look for anything resembling rotten flesh around the team and seem to take special glee in shitting on the franchise. Almost like if Toronto or Edmonton aren't winning the Cup then they feel honour-bound to cater to their homies by shitting on the other Canadian franchises - starting with Vancouver. All the more reason to root for Vancouver to win it - just to publicly shove it down SportsNet HQ's throat and watch them embarrass themselves.

Yeah but did Colorado’s GM come out and say Rantanen ‘wants to play with his brothers in New Jersey’ like our splendid genius Rutherford?
Carolina ain’t making that trade if it were the case as is it with Quinn “wanting to play with his brothers.” Carolina made a valid attempt to sign him, thinking they could sign him. The only hazard with acquiring Rantanen was the price he was asking, Carolina didn’t seem bothered by his demands, they were pretty much throwing keys to the banks to to him. There was no indication of “where” he wanted to play.
I have no doubts Hughes will get you a decent return as rental in two trade deadlines from now. I question how much of a future an inquiring team would be willing to give up knowing that in couple months after the playoffs he will sign to play with his brothers in Jersey.

If necessary, trade h next summer to jersey where they can sign him to a gazillion x 8.
But, I believe Hughes will stay here. I feel it in my sub-cockles.
