Then heres to seeing him next fall.
Well I could foresee us protecting Hughes, Juolevi, and Tryamkin
Ryan Biech is an astute hockey fella and reads all the CBA, NHL rules yada yada, he says Hughes will not have to be protected if he plays under 11 games THIS NHL season.
So that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
So we will be protecting (new dman), Juolevi and Tryamkin in the 2021 exp draft.
Ya but since he will play in the playoffs he will get more than 11. Right Doc.

If Hughes signs like Boeser March 25th, or Gaudette March 26th, he'll play about 5 maybe 6 regular season games, then IF the Canucks squeak into the playoffs depends on if we get some wins in the 1st round, if so he could pass the 11 game threshold, make it to 2nd round no doubt he passes that, but I think the Canucks wouldn't care as 2nd round.... a lot of IF's in there.

Do playoff games count? I thought it would be 11 regular season games.

We've already established that "there's a lot of confusion out there".
Did Biech show you his homework?
Well here's a guy who did:
https://canucksarmy.com/2018/03/27/gaud ... ion-draft/
That is from when everyone was saying the draft would be in 2020
... so it's about Dahlen who in 2020 would have been in the exact position Hughes will be in 2021.
Note the CBA quotes and
the Kyle Baun example.
Baun had to be protected (or exposed) in 2017 (with just 2 full AHL seasons + 5 total pro games previously)
... for the exact same reasons Hughes would have to be protected/exposed in 2021
... if he plays so much as
one single game in the NHL or AHL this season.
End of story.

So will the canucks suffer any negative baloney from Hughes if they wait til summer to sign him? When would we lose his rights if we upset the applecart?

I don't see how anyone could argue against the evidence presented my brother.
Just because "there's a lot of confusion out there"
... doesn't deny the logic just presented to you.
You need to take more time absorbing that article (a deep article and a great article).
I know you
want to believe Hughes can play some games this season and still be exempt in 2021
... but the cold hard facts seem to suggest it's not the truth.
EDIT: Y'know if hockey pundits were any good, the'd be asking these questions of NHL GMs... boom: no more confusion!

Well Im just remembering what BMac was saying about Mittelstadt last year, and this should hold true for Hughes this year no?
(26 Mar 2018) Bob McKenzie:
Mittelstadt is expected to sign his contract tomorrow and join Sabres’ NHL roster immediately after that. Could play for BUF as early as Thursday and finish balance of regular season with Sabres. May also be a consideration for Team USA at the World Championship.
Because Mittelstadt is a late birthdate (Nov/98), he burns the first-year of his entry-level contract as soon as he signs it, but he does not get to count this season as a pro year, which means he won’t need to be protected for expansion draft (assuming it’s in 2020).

So where's his homework/logic/proof?
Just because his name is Bob McKenzie doesn't mean he's auto-right about everything dontcha know!
As we've established, "there's a lot of confusion out there".
Debate me around the logic of the case the article/yours-truly has made damn you!
"Oh but the pope said... " doesn't cut it I'm afraid.
Debates are about logic/facts, not appeals to authority!
Having said all that, no way I'm going up against Bob McKenzie so...
you win.

I'm so fucking confused about this (again)
And there's no way I'm going to figure anything out today after drinking like Blob last night.
(yeah I was bluffing about being up to a true debate today)
Why don't they give us the ALL the expansion draft rules damnit!
