RE: Oilers and Flames: Yes of course, but this is fun right now...
Indeed.
Nice view here from the top of the Pacific division standings
It won't (and better not) last long, but I always enjoy watching the Flames beat the Oilers. They've had their 3 game winning streak, so now it's time for the Flames to start losing. We need a top 3 draft pick this year

Pulling for Flames to finish 12th in the west and 18th overall.
Rooting for Edmonton to finish 19th overall and have to surrender their 1st rounder to Philly.
Honestly, with Edmonton’s blueline and goaltending they could conceivably miss the playoffs even if McDavid skates out a 150 point season.

Unfortunately for the Flames, I think you are right - they won't make the playoffs, but will finish too high to get a blue chip draft pick -

The 2016-17 Canucks started the season 3-0. Actually 4-0-1. They ended 30-43-9.
I think that team had a similar roster to the Flames, with the Flames having a slight edge on D and the Canucks an edge in net, and a wash up front. Like the Flames, the 2016-17 Canucks had its aging stars who were no longer lethal, it had a still solid presence on the blue line (Tanev, Edler -- though it was probably Edler's worse season), it had a good variety of young players who probably weren't going to be stars but if things broke well might be in the middle of a lineup (Hutton, Stetcher, Tryamkin, Horvat (who had the highest potential), Baertschi, Granlund). Unlike the Flames, it had a solid #1 in net (Miller), but like the Flames they had a young goalie with potential that they were grooming to be the starter (Markstrom).
But the Flames have started this season playing determined, with some physicality, and they seem well coached. That's a big difference with the 2016-17 Canucks. Plus, the attitude of a team knowing that the season is about the future vs. a team hanging on to pipe dream can be dramatic. The 2016-17 Canucks did a lot of stick-squeezing....
Still, I am having a hard time seeing the Flames get more than 75 points this season, 3-0 start or not, and that's a 75 point total buoyed by playing in the weakest division in the NHL.

Leaves got spanked 6-2 tonight by the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets.
I love perusing a Leaves message board on a night like this.

Trouba absolutely destroys Habs' Barron with a monster hit.

Clean hit, and of course.... he still had to 'answer' for it.

In these cases I think the fighting major should be waived for the hitter. Totally clean, beauty of a hockey play. No way should you be penalized for dropping the mitts in defence when a guy comes at you like that after a clean hockey play. If you have to risk taking a fighting major every time you lay a clean body check, then just take hitting completely out of the game and ruin it in its entirety. I’m ok with the response by Montreal, but the better response is to have one of their blueliners or forecheckers answer that hit with a hit of their own.
Trouba is old school, one of the last of his breed. He caught a 22 year old, who has grown up playing ”woke” hockey that has been evolving to satisfy an increasingly wimpy society, with his head down. The hit didn’t even involve a ton of speed, it was just a solid stepped into shoulder to chest.
That stuff BELONGS in the game. Too many guys who could hit like Trouba choose not to because they are castrated by the 5 min major that comes from defending yourself. Unfortunately it’s what the league wants though. It’s nice to see a guy like Trouba who does not shy away from it because of the retaliation and penalization.

Just don’t drop the gloves.
Reminds me of when Tim Hunter drilled Gilmore. He didn’t drop the gloves and was still around when they went after Ronning. Just give them the Barnaby smile and skate away. I always appreciate a good trolling.

Mëds they aren't going to waive a fighting major for guy who's throwing punches. You give other guy an instigator and maybe even a roughing penalty. Give your merm a shake.

Trouba has anger issues, it’s why they tried to trade him. His teammates don’t like him, miserable on and off the ice. He needs help.

Uh-ooh, trouble in River City!
Coach Berube is pissed at the lack of effort from his #1 line tonight.
And just look at that attitude from their pigman captain.
The new dump & chase, play-more-physically Berube system is not going over well with the pretty boys.
Who new?
Show him who's boss pretty boys!
UPDATE: Final score Blues 5, Leaves 1
