Why do I get the feeling M. Pettersson will get Zadorov money in an extension - despite not even remotely being able to contribute what Zadorov brought to the team.

Pretty bad the beefiest Pettersson on the team is the one in the press box.

I can understand if the NYR pick was the cost of offloading salary, but all that for a twig of a defenceman who adds zero offense and doesn’t move the needle on D. Guy has never had more than 30 points in a season his whole life, so - like - a taller Forbort???? All that for a 1st round pick??? The guy is not young, either.

And management would tell us they couldn’t get Provorov for less?

Chef Boi RD wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 7:11 am Again, the season was cooked well before Miller was traded. There are 31 games left in the season, even if we sneak the wild card door we are toast early. M. Pettersson is a UFA at season’s end, save the god damn pick and go balls to the wall after him in July if you love him that much, ffs. It’s a ridiculous trade. Joe we are not even guaranteed to sign him. I don’t get these two Jack Asses.
Unless the Rangers fall off a cliff after the trade, the pick will be middle of the pack in a thin draft....

I think that they may have kept it if not for having their core group of players in their mid to late 20's, especially Hughes...

And if they don't think that they can resign him, they can flip him at the deadline....

And for those here who think cap space is the king of kings, the team has $6 million this deadline and $27 million to start next season...

Take care...
It’s actually a good draft class right up into the teens
That's not what I've heard.

It's adorable to see you losing your shit.

He's a legit #3 D man. Z is a #5. Pettersson is the better player. Ive seen him listed at 6 ft 3 179. Hes not 6 ft 5.

Zadorov played 54 regular season games for Vancouver. With just 31 games left in the season we may end up having gotten more mileage out of Zadorov than pending UFA Marcus “Birdbones” Pettersson. And Zadorov cost us less - a 3rd rd pick and a 5th rd pick. Allvin and Rutherford seem to be getting worse at their jobs the longer they are at it.

Mpetey is a solid defender. He's not tough like Z but hes also much more reliable in his own end.

It's absolutely fair to say he's a very good #3.

To me this says they aren't waving the white flag on the season at all. The pick will definitely be in the 20s after Miller arrives. They've been damn good after coming out of their slump

Hockey DB has Marcus Birdbones at 6’-5” 174lbs. Geezus, what a rail.

Elite Prospects - 6’-4”
NHL.com - 6’-5”
Puckpedia - 6’-4”
Hockey DB - 6’-5”

All listing him around 175 lbs

Brandon Sutter was 6’-3” 190 lbs when he matured as a pro. Marcus Pettersson turns 29 in May. Not expecting any weight gain there

Legit #3 on a lottery team that is the Penguins.

Let’s see if he can contribute like a legit #3 on a team that has aspirations beyond the next draft.

Mancini didn’t make the Rangers top 10 prospects list from these sources back in:

McKeens List - September 2024
Daily Face Off - August 2024
NHL.com - August 2024 (Top 5 list)
Forever Blueshirts - October 2024
Hockey Writers - August 2024

McKeens ranked the Rangers prospect pool 23rd in the league at the time of their list

Not good

My Spidey senses are telling me there’s one more big trade coming. All boeser’s Instagram post and Myers crying after the game prove is who is on the Miller clique.

Hughes looks miserable because he’s banged up and he hates losing.

Miller has been kicked off two other teams. He’s been benched multiple times this year. He got sent home from work (from a hockey team) for fuck sakes. Some guys just need to be moved on. The fact that the return was not great is reflective of his perceived value from a risk versus reward standpoint.

Ok, for my sanity I’m going to have to force myself to see the positives in this or I’m gonna go crazy, if I already haven’t.

Chytil

We see a better version of Chytil here as he see’s more ice than he did in NYR out of lack of competition. The concussion’s are a thing of the past. He’s the same age as Petey, same draft class, can skate and has good size. And has a fellow countrymen in Hronek.

Marcus Pettersson

He’s the solid 2nd pair left shot D-man we’ve been looking for. It’s been a problem. Good guy in the room apparently. Will pair up nicely with either Willander or Hronek. Will be a positive influence on Centre Pettersson and mentor to Willander and D-Pete. Not too old, 28. And we will ink him

Mancini

The wild card. If he pan’s out, great! If not…oh well.

O’Connor? Who cares, know nothing

Scooter Pettersson

The Alien can relax now, he re-discovers himself and will have learned from all of this, matured by the experience, now that the lunatic is gone.

Addition by subtraction

Miller - Got rid of an aging cancer in the room on a big contract in which we are now washed clean of, no retention. Thumbs up.

Cap relief

No have some cap flexibility, combined with next years $7 million raise in the cap, all seems well in that department, now just don’t go and fuck that up with another Air Thief!

Next up

Pending UFA’s - Boeser, Lankinen and of course Marcus Pettersson. M-Pete you go hard after. Boeser and Lankinen you wait, if we are out of the playoff running around the deadline you entertain trade offers. Lankinen is a tough one, you can’t have two goalies on big contracts, but Demko’s injury pile up and pending UFA status after next season is concerning. Tough decisions on Boeser and Lankinen.

Is the hope that D Pete v2 is a younger Tanev?

While the D is looking somewhat better, scoring is going to/has now become a serious problem. Re-upping on Boeser may be the wisest decision.

I was wondering that in his 2 game audition. He should at least be a serviceable 3 pairing, hoping he can become a reliable 2nd pairing defensive d man.
