That time of the year again.

Malta has been asked by the EBU to change the lyrics of their eurovision entry, Kant.
I mean, come on, it means "singing" in Maltese*. How can that be seen as offensive? :|

*Fun fact, Maltese is the only Semitic language indigenous to Europe. It is related to Sicilo-Arabic, the language spoken in Sicily when it was under Muslim rule. The basic vocabulary and the grammar are Semitic, but some 40% of the vocabulary is Sicilian or Italian and another 20 % English.

Reminds me of 2009, when it was held in Russia, and Georgia weren't allowed to perform their song "We Don't Wanna Put In" because it supposedly could be seen as political. I don't know, they're just singing about a night at the disco, nothing at all about the 2008 Russian invasion.

The Russians have always been a bit oversensitive. In 2007 they also tried to get the Ukrainian entry banned, claiming that "Lasha Tumbai" actually meant "Russia goodbye". F---ing snowflakes. That time they didn't succeed though. And now they've been kicked out of the EBU, as their public broadcasting network isn't independent anymore, but government controlled.

The Swedish ESC entry this year, Bara Bada Bastu (Just Take A Sauna) is the first entry to be sung in Swedish since 1998, and it took three Finns to do it! The artists are a comedy group from Finland consisting of three Swedish speaking Finns, a minority that makes up roughly 5% of the Finnish population and is a remnant from when Finland was part of Sweden. Guess the lumberjack lock might appeal to a Canadian audience.

"We're gonna have a sauna, sauna, steam up and let go of all stress
Sauna brothers, we're the ones who glow, hundred degrees, well then
Just having a sauna, sauna, pour it on so the sweat just whirls around
Oh, having a sauna, yeah!"

If this doesn't get us 12 points from Finland, I don't know what will.
