By not signing Boeser to 7-8 M they can use that money to lure a FA that will fill a needed hole. I'd give that to Traveres for 4 years. Or go after Marner for 12 M. Or Ehlers for .....the point is use the money better.

I don't like the way the geezer treats people. There's no loyalty in him.
You wanna give him a seven or eight year ticket for 7-8?

That would be the height of stupidity. Why be loyal to a guy who looks old at 28? Thats what sunk Pat Quinn.

Smart old geezer.
No I wouldn't give him 7 or 8 years Blob. He's bound to age poorly, but I would try to meet in the middle somewhere.

You can mark me down as someone who is not a fan of The Geezer's management style, I guess.
Do you think he is worth more than DeBrusk? I don't. But I would settle at his same salary for 5 years.
Debrusk's cap hit it 5.5. They offered Brock 8 per year over 5.

Debrusk can skate and plays a bit of defense.

Bruce can't coach defense. I see teams knocking his door down to coach their team. They chose to choose Miller over Horvat. Right or wrong .... they made that choice. In hindsight Bo would look good. In Hronek they have a top 30 D man in the league signed to term. How the management treated Miller like shit is baffling to me. The guy is a good hockey player but he's an idiot.

Benning was everyone's friend. I prefer management to be mean if they need to be

They offered 40 over 5. Brock flipped them the bird. Good. He takes more than he gives. I'm curious on the price point for the Swiss Army Knife. 4.25 x 4?

From Canucks Army:

In Friday’s edition of Trade Targets over at dailyfaceoff.com, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Canucks have offered Boeser a five-year contract with an annual average value of $8 million ($40 million total). Here is what Seravalli wrote:
Scoop: The Canucks put a 5-year, $40 million offer on the table, but Boeser is looking for more term in this slow-moving game of ‘chicken.’ Expect it to heat up this week. The Canucks essentially dared him to go out and replicate his 40-goal season. He’s on track for 28 with seven games missed due to injury, which is close to his career average. Now with the increasing cap on his side, he’s a younger UFA, and the Canucks are really going to need scoring support if they have designs on competing again anytime soon. Plus they currently have the cap room to re-sign him and it’s not a huge jump in AAV compared to what he’s currently making.
Essentially, the Canucks are asking Boeser to leave roughly $16 million USD on the table, as any contract he signs in free agency would almost certainly be for seven years and close to the cap hit the Canucks are offering.

It occurred to me this morning that management may offer Suter a lot of the money they were going to give Boeser, and use the savings towards getting a 2C. Suter's a couple months older, but he's proven more useful, versatile and his floor is not that much worse than Boeser's. With Lekkerimaki coming on, Boeser just isn't as valuable as he used to be for the team.

The argument to keep Boeser is his 40-goal tease last year and the hope that he can form chemistry with whoever slots in as the 2C to replicate that production. Faint hope, IMO. Brock is who he is, and if he wants more than what management offered, let him go with well wishes. I like the guy, but he's replaceable. You can call management assholes the way they treated Boudreau and Horvat, but I appreciate that they're not overly sentimental - something that's plagued management previously. Sometimes ya gotta move on.

DeBrusk is an excellent comparable. That's about what he deserves to be paid. I guess I'm prepared to be dazzled by Rutherford's magic in free agency, though. Let's see what he comes up with.

I like the work this administration has done in UFA. Sure they made some mistakes but they have a far better batting average than most. Sherwood, Joshua, Forbort, Lankinen (time will tell whether the new deal is good or not), Debrusk, Blueger, Suter, Cole were all solid to excellent signings. Michayev and Kuzmenko didn't work out but they ditched Kuzy's ticket. Michayev shredded his knee but he's at 20 goals and is playing good hockey for the Hawks. So the eye for talent is there. We can debate trading him.

Desharnais stunk, Heinen was meh....... They moved those deals and brought in O'Connor. Anyone bitching about the gamble on Sprong needs a helmet and a handler.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure not Donny. Bo Horvat's sideburns lasted about a week, if I recall correctly.

Jagr did not have the mullet when he played in Jersey. Pretty sure Lou was GM at the time.

I actually cannot figure out how LL gets away with some of his shit. Like, why did players tolerate it and play for him?

Yankees recently relaxed the Steinbrenner directive from the '70's regarding short hair/no beards to well groomed beards.

Yeah, seems kind of archaic when you also have LeBron James at pre-game shoot around shirtless like he's at the Y on Sunday morning or some such thing.
