In 2015-16, the leaves lost the most 1 goal games of any NHL team. They finished just 1 point below Edmonton for 30th. You add a first line star winger in Kessel who never misses a game and there's no doubt they don't finish 30th and likely do not get Matthews.

The leaves got a massive break. They have a horseshoe up their asses the past few years at the draft .Mono is the only reason he did not go top 5. Every draft year there is one player who drops much farther than expected (Cam Fowler. Filip Forsberg to use recent examples).
There is not one scout you can find who says he does not posses elite skating/puck-handling/shooting skills. You never get guys like that at 17.
