I do wonder if Hughes is banged up more thane know right now. As some one else mentioned, why the rush to do this deal tonight? M-pete is a player they have coveted for a couple of years. But you do need to hope there is an extension coming or we just fucked the dog big time. But why be surprised. They blew the wad last year getting Lindstrom.

No. I can't see it.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 10:07 pm We're as thin as the arm of a Pettersson down the middle now. That's not so wonderful but seeing their fight tonight can be something to build hope out of yeah?
Petey got manhandled out there tonight.
His skating does not impress and he will never create space for himself.
I have completely given up on seeing any sort of results from this team.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

So from a cap perspective, we trade out 4.250 and acquire 4.950. So we add $750,000 in cap. We saved 3.6 on the Miller deal so we have a net gain of 2.85 M in new cap. Add that to the cap we already had and we still have room to add a good player.

Marcus Pettersson is a UFA in 31 games. Brilliant. Why not save the pick and sign him in the off season ffs?

It’s like Jack Gordon came back from the dead and took possession of Allvin and Rutherford’s bodies to make these god awful trades.

Re: JT Miller Traded to NYR + Marcus Pettersson Acquired from Pens
Just spoke to my business partner who has had shared season's tickets since the mid 2000's, the one who offers me tickets to at least a few games a year (but I've declined more than I accepted the last few)... he just agreed with the few of us in here and many on the streets... not clear on this regime's direction and lost faith in them. He is seriously considering giving up the tickets for good. For a guy who held on to them even during the darkest time post-Torts. It's not like it's the wisest investment in this economy, but the joy of being a fan? it's completely gone, man.
Once again, one guy's name is vigorously cheered on a lot more than any others. Real paying fans know who are the ones towing the weight. It's not even Pettersson really. Of course, the standard for a top 5 player in the league has to be met or the knives will come out, not by a few in this GDHTMB but by the very same vultures whose livelihoods depend on negative spin on the town's hockey club.
Who'd have thought after last season, the team would go over a cliff worse than the end of the AV era? And it's over some riduculous, head-scratching, petty shit that shouldn't be so difficult to fix for experienced NHL people. You'd think...
Heavy is the Tarp...

^ good post, and it seems the onus on management and coaching will need to get a rudder on this team damn fast.
I'm nowhere near giving up, but my interest level is dropping each month.

Two pending UFA's.
This has Zedorov and Lindholm written all over it.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

It sure does Tops.
But breaking it down the trade makes more sense to me than the Miller deal. m.Pettersson was always going to get a 1st at the trade deadline. That they could swap the Heinan contract for O'Connor and move Desharnais in the deal was a great move. O'Connor will give us what Heinan did at a much lower cost. But if they cannot get an extension for Pettersson then the trade is a bust.
Our left side is a log jam so I wonder who moves over to play the right side. Soucy? Or is Hughes hurt worse than we know?
We have accumulated cap space for this year and next. But it has to be burning a whole in management's pocket. You know our first is on the table to upgrade the top six now.
I'm in shock over today's events. I feel a sadness that JT is gone. I feel relief that the saga is over, for now. I too have lost a lot of interest in this team. But I will watch to see how the new guys perform.

Man, can't believe Millzy is gone just like that. I always liked the fact that we had a 1-2 punch of EP40 & Millzy down the middle. It had the potential to be our franchise best and maybe even one of the best in the league if the 2 were going. Just wish they could have had a respectable working relationship. I mean, they don't have to be buddies or anything, but when they're on the ice, just go out and battle for each other, play hard for the team and have fun. They're making millions and playing a game for crying out loud. Any Cdn kid (pretty much all of us here) dreamed of playing in the NHL. If we could be in their shoes, we'd take it in a heartbeat and we wouldn't even care about the money. If we were told we could play in the NHL, but would have to put up with an annoying asshole, most of us would say: "Hell ya! I don't care. I'm just going to tell the fuqin guy to kiss my ass."
Gotta say, it seemed like mgmt just wanted to get rid of Millzy and was willing to do so at a loss. The return doesn't seem very good (couldn't even get one of B.Schneider or Lefreniere), and the 1st round pick is even protected. Seems like they just wanted to get rid of the distraction/cancer.
