Considering how much he admires the North Korean dictator, who apart from running death camps also has had several family members executed, it doesn't seem far fetched.

But it's nice that he backed down. I mean, being criticized by the UN, the EU, leading democrats and republicans, the pope, most of the media - that's pretty much business as usual for him, but when not only Laura Bush, but also Melania and Ivanka (who he would date if she wasn't his daughter*) turned against him, he finally caved.

Also, the separation was never required by law. It was just a policy decision, which is why he himself could stop it without any need for congress to do anything.

Lord Trump had to separate families to effectively enforce the law as it is spelled out.

Congress failed to perma-fix this so Lord trump issued this EO as a stopgap.

Congress still needs to deal with this as the Supreme Court could toss the EO.

What happens going forward when it is proven that some of these "parents" are in reality human traffickers?

(happens all the time, but now they'll be locking them up with the kids)

Also I think children in these situations can only legally be detained for 20 days, so what happens after 20 days?

Congress is dysfunctional these days, which is why EOs are more and more common (I believe Obama set a new record).

Agreed - they should, but both sides like to have wedge issues to feed their bases. The repub had their chance, just as the dems did 8 years ago.
