Barrie with Hughes will be back quicker than Tanev and I suspect will give the forecheckers more to worry about than CT. The problem will be down low and in front of the net.
Who would block shots and lay guys out with devastating but legal hits be able to grind out the puck possession battles, not to mention
be mean to forwards poking at the goalie? Even with all that offensive upside on one pairing there would be areas of vulnerability that could possibly be exploited by other teams that have done their homework scouting.
Pretty sure Wiz was only talking about pairing Hughes and Barrie together on the power play...

Barrie isn't worth 7 million for five or six years. No way. Financial disaster Louis style.
Also; his style of play may not age well. Not like Edler.
A home town discount would have to be --- real good.

Well Jimmy won't give a better deal than Myers, so burn that strawman of yours...

Barrie likely comes home for a team friendly. Id say 5.5-5.75 for 4 years

I agree, term might be even shorter if he wants to bank on himself

Article from May; https://theleafsnation.com/2020/05/06/t ... on-barrie/

It's just jibber jabber but just the fact "some folks" speak of max numbers is

I pressed the little sad smiley at the end even though it's way late.

The rumours at the 2019 draft had the Canucks trying to get barrie, but Sakic wanted overpayment from a western team (JV+Stech+pick? iirc) JB said nah-traded for JT Miller instead, and Barrie thought it was a done deal to Vancity, was pissed it didn't happen according to biznasty.

Then when Barrie wasn't performing well under babcock, team almost traded for him in February, but Stecher wasn't enough.

Now as a UFA the Canucks and Barrie can finally link up this offseason.

Tanev
Myers
Barrie
That would be a nice trio to have on the Right side, might be too expen$ive for the cap though

Why would he? It’s one thing to take a pay cut out to help the team if you see them making moves to improve the team. It’s another to take one so the team can lock up a defender to a long term big contract who can’t defend

Why would he?
Because he's an aging injury-prone sonuvabitch?

I'd give him the same contract again.

EDIT: Just checked and no I wouldn't actually, to much term at his age.

Its an either/or scenario dangly.

Who would you prefer? Tanev or Barrie?

There’s no way to afford both Tanev and Barrie unless they get someone to take a lot of bad $$ off the books. Can’t see why any team would do the Canucks a big favour like that.
