I can't wait until Team Smurf is in full flight, a swarming of blue smurfs getting pinball'd around the ice. Bracco, Shosnikov, Marner, Kapanen etc., etc., etc., etc.....

Those need to be on the opening day roster don't they?

Do they still cause havoc with off season overages?
Yes indeedie, those contracts are counted toward the "salary cap + 10% summer overage".

(LTIR does not exist in the good old summertime)

If the cap is $74M a team could go as high as $81.4M in the good old summertime.

But in the case of the Leaves $10.5M of that $81.4M is Horton + Lupul.

So not counting those 2

... Leaves would only be able to go as high as $70.9M in the good old summertime.

Now, on the first day of the regular season Leaves could put those 2 on LTIR.

They would then be able to spend up to $10.5M over that $70.9M = up to $81.4M?

But what players... making all that money... do you bring after the season starts?

As an aside, also counting towards the Leaves cap in the good old summertime and all next season:

$1.2M Kessel (retained) + $1.33 Gleason (buyout) + 750K Cowen (buyout) = $3.28M.

But yeahno, I don't think Leaves will use any of that LTIR.

As I say, if Leaves use even one cent of that LTIR relief

... all ELC bonus $$ are tacked onto the next year's cap.

Over $5M worth in this particular case I believe.

heh heh heh heh HA weeeeeeeee HAHA what a predicament!

That is correct.

Other young teams do not have $10.5M tied up in LTIR in 2 players (Horton + Lupul).

(at least Robidas comes off the books this summer)

Look Tuna, I'm not trying to be some kind of asshole here, I'm just reporting the facts.

You've been through enough, Leaves are a cursed team, they will bring you nothing but sorrow.

There is no shame in dumping them at this point and moving on...
And the leaves aren't paying guys like Lucic or Okposo 6-7 million per.

And LTIR does not count if they go to the cap.

First of all it's "Leaves".

Secondly at least Sabres/Oil get something out of Okposo/Lucic

... Leaves get nothing out of Horton/Lupul.

It's a story about nothing!

Not sure what you mean here.

If Leaves don't use Horton/Lupul LTIR to go over the cap

... they will effectively have $10.5M* less than most teams to spend on active players.

If Leaves do use Horton/Lupul LTIR to go over the cap

... they will be hit with around $5M in ELC bonuses against the cap the following year.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't... damned Leaves! 8-)

* $10.5M + $3.28M (Kessel/Gleason/Cowen) + safety room = ~ $15M below the cap.

Will Columbus be hurt by Clarkson being on LTIR?

And your point is, Lucic is a fine signing because he's in the lineup "Kind of" contributing? LOL. You're so biased. Worry about your own team giving guys like Eriksson terrible contracts.

Gleason and Cowen come off the books this year BTW.

Tuna; Don't forget about your massive day-care expenses. I think they count on the cap.

No, Cowan is a $750,000 cap hit next season.

Sorry Rats - I thought there was something fishy about that line.
