I'm assuming that Diana = Phaneuf.Hockey Widow wrote:A lot of players benefited from that. Diana in Calgary had a stellar year in the A and came out strong in the NHL. Part of it was players getting the chance to play together as teammates. You would think somewhere a GM would recognize this. I think a change is needed to allow exceptions to players having to be returned to junior. Perhaps a limit of 1-2 per team.
I truly think Jake will benefit staying there the whole year.
He never played a game in the AHL. He went back to Red Deer, put up 56 in 55, and then straight to the big club to start 2005-06 where he notched 49 points as a rookie blueliner.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Personally, I'd be in favour of a Dallas Stars model, but Jim keeps trading our 5th rounders for guys like Prust and Larsen, and since we can't trade with ourselves it'll be real tough to fleece someone for a Seguin.

They made the playoffs in there. Canucks have missed the playoffs two of three years and are well on their way to 3 of 4 and getting raped in the one year they made it.So when did each teams rebuild start ? Or do you need Topper and Doc to answer that for you?RoyalDude wrote:Yeah amazing assets. in the 7th year of their rebuild

Re: The Rebuild...
I'm fairly certain the cheque book has been taken away from Ignitowski. The team is jammed up against the cap with some serious boat anchor contracts and is bottom 3 in the NHL. They only have 45 players in the system signed to contracts. No team has five contract slots open to my knowledge and they haven't picked up any guys on waivers despite the injuries and the situation in Utica.
I'll be very surprised if any of this regime is around next year barring a .650 run to finish this season. Aquilini will take a blow torch to this thing like he did to the Cheeseburgular in 08.

Re: The Rebuild...
I like how the team is not picking up waiver wire scraps for patch fixes, just let the team continue to develop the young guys this year and see who we are going to draft in June, in the mean time the team can see what trades pop up out of nowhere.
The trade deadline and prior to the expansion draft (pre-June 17th) should be interesting times -- from the chaos is a good time to get a player/youth/picks.
Blackhawks custom model I assume is analytics combined with video, probably more than a few guys doing this.

Canucks got to get their analytics crew up and ready for potential deals. The 30 NHL Clubs must submit their Protection List by 5:00 P.M. ET on Saturday, June 17, 2017. The Las Vegas team must submit their Expansion Draft Selections by 5:00 P.M. ET on June 20 and the announcement of their selections will be released on made on June 21.

Re: The Rebuild...
Skyo my point wasn't that I wanted the team to pick up a bunch of waiver fodder players. Gods knows they have a bunch of them on the current abortion of a roster. I said it looks as though Ignitowski has his hands tied by ownership. This man loves to make trades and not one deal to patch up the squad yet? The Hutton re signing was a layup. If Horvat and Gudbranson aren't signed to extensions during the season it will be fairly telling.
Benning is a dead man walking at this point. So are Trevor and Willie

Interesting article. Some guy on yahoo sports thinks that Trev and JB are secretly tanking and that they purposely sign guys to inflated contracts to trick ownership into thinking that they are trying to make the playoffs. Not sure I really buy it though. When I hear Trev and JB say that want to compete every year and retool on the fly, I think they do mean it. They could have dumped some veteran players around the midway point last season, but those guys were kept around helping our team finish higher in the standings. Still remember when we were almost neck and neck with TO last season in the turtle derby, but we go into Cali (where we always struggle) and sweep 3 games there. It was the biggest "DOH" and kick in the balls for tank nation.

Nah GM's never get fired that quick, no GM would want to be here if the owners let him go so fast.Blob Mckenzie wrote:I said it looks as though Ignitowski has his hands tied by ownership.

I think you kinda get the gist every GM is a bit stuck this season, thanks in part to multiple factors, the big one is the cap, second is the expansion draft, plus it's early in the season somewhat and mid-season trades are difficult.
Might be a couple big "hockey deals" in jan/feb, but the deals for contenders will typically be at the trade deadline.
The expansion draft will make this an unusual time for GM's as every team is gonna lose a player, just who is the million dollar question and do teams want to save someone by trading someone else first.
Tim Murray doesn't want to look bad either with the Kane deal after he traded Myers + prospects/picks in a mega deal, all Im saying is every GM are probably more ruthless than you on a bad day lol. Over valuing their players, wanting our best young talent and picks in every deal....hence Benning is chilling now after going on the hunt like a wolf, now he has to bide his time waiting to pounce like a croc at the watering hole aka tdd & pre expansion draft.
*Willie will be let go after this season though.

Buffalo is apparently shopping Mikhail Grigorenko. Don't want to pay him on his next deal. Maybe the deal for Kane is dead but.....Hutton for Grigorenko?
The only HW the Canucks need
