It's not very common, but it does happen.

Exhibit B: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=29626
Exhibit C: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=7693

Jesper, Filip and Oliver do seem to be doing OK... :mex:
(but in all fairness, both Filip and Oliver did spend time in the AHL as well in their first NHL season)

I think Jonathan is trying to emulate Henrik Zetterberg.

Brief history lesson: Timrå IK was founded in 1921 as the sports club Wifstavarv GIF. They took up hockey in 1937, and by 1956 they had reached the highest league in Sweden. At that time, after merging with two other local clubs, they were called Wifsta/Östrand-Fagervik IK, commonly referred to as WÖF, but the name seemed a bit much, so in the 60's they switched to the name they have today. They stayed in the highest league until they were demoted in 1976. Two brief stints at the top again in 1977/78 and 1981/82, but after that they were lost in the desert till the young Henrik Zetterberg stepped forth, pulled the sword out of the stone and more or less single handedly brought them back to SHL status in 2000. He stayed with them for one more season before becoming a Red Wing, and the team stayed in the SHL until they were demoted again in 2013.

Now, Jonathan and Elias played together in Timrå last season, and this season most people thought they would both play in the SHL. But Dahlén decided to stay in Timrå, despite offers from pretty much every SHL team there was. I think he wants to achieve the same legendary status in Timrå as Zetterberg has, by leading their quest to once again reach the highest echelon of hockey in Sweden. They're almost there.
Fantastic information Per! I never knew that about Zetterberg, based on the odds and information you have given us I think he will need to go AHL and if he proves to be great he could jump to NHL during his first year in North America. However based on how many prospects are pushing for spots and Canucks management trying to keep Vets in the lineup to ensure a pro approach at all times it seems unlikely he makes the jump so quickly. I admire him for trying to take that path for Timra but wonder if his own personal development would have been better served in SHL.

Game three between Timrå and Leksand tonight.

TIMRÅ–LEKSAND 2–0 after the first period.
1–0 Johannes Kinnvall (Wedin, Dahlén)
2–0 Jonathan Dahlén (Hardegård)

Well, he'd face tougher opponents in the SHL, but he gets more ice time and leadership practice at this level.
Hard to tell which option would be better at this stage. I'd guess the SHL, but if they really do manage to get promoted, I think that would be a mental boost that helps establish himself as a winner in his own mind.

3–0 Jonathan Dahlén (Hardegård, J. Johnsson)
3–1 Filip Johansson (Müller, M. Karlsson)
4–1 Erik Karlsson (Gallo, Strömberg)

Three minutes remaining.
Leksand are done. Timrå sweeps them and will face Karlskrona in a best out of seven series over an SHL slot.

Sorry, how does this work? If Timrå wins the best of 7 they get promoted to the SHL and Karlskrona gets demoted down to Tier 2?

Yup! The two teams finishing last in the SHL have to face a challenger from the second tier.

Mora, who were second to last will also face a challenger. Which is still to be determined.
The six teams finishing 3rd to 8th in the second tier league all face eachother in a single game series. The winner faces Leksand, who lost to Timrå, in a best out of five, and the winner of that series plays Mora.

Looks like Dahlen has put Timra on his back and single-handedly knocked out Leksand.

When is game 1 against Karlskrona?

Hm. I'm gonna have to try that. Might be good. You done the micro brewery crawl in East Van yet? It's the rage now, so many micro breweries down there. I drive by your favourite - Andina, all the time. Dundas/Powell. Need to stop in there

Hey what's that road parrallel to St John down by the train tracks in Port Moody? Lots of pubs and restaurants. That Port Moody is turning into a nice area now. Scoped a job out that way a bit ago and went that back route to the new part of Port Moody.

Murray Street ? That’s where all the breweries are. You should stop and sample a flight and buy yourself a growler at yellow dog. A buddy of mines son in law owns a very good sausage and jerky place in that area. If you head back towards the Barnet Hwy in that area Rosa’s is a good little Italian restaurant. She used to work at Nicks on Commercial

They start on the 25th. I guess they are waiting for the challenger for Mora to be determined before the relegationgames begin.

Meanwhile the SHL playoffs start for Elias on the 18th.

And some footage from last night's game between Timrå and Leksand:

Apart from Dahlén's two goals and one assist, he is also involved in a disallowed goal and a saved penalty shot.

Enjoy! 8-)
