Is this an accusation?

If so you are way off the mark.

There is always people on forums who just think that number of posts are important. You don't necessarily have to be relevant just having 2,000 posts is "cool" for some reason. So anybody new, call them a sock and you get another post for your cool total,
I don't think that's the reason... not at this board.

We're too old to care about such things here.

I think the real reason has to do with the site which most of us posted at previously (some for 15 years).

(CanucksCentral.com)

For most of our time there socks were allowed.

Needless to say, strange games were played.

Every time a new username appeared, folks would guess about whose sock it might be.

It became a habit, what can I say.

And because some of us have posted together for close to 30 years total, there tends to be plenty of "inside jokes".

I hope you can handle dat dere, cuz we're hungry for fresh blood brother!

So yeah, welcome to the Old Farts site MrG. :towel:

EDIT: Just checked your profile... "Age 61"... oh buddy, are YOU in the right place!

A sock is when a poster already on the board a moderator named Strangelove opens another account with a different screen name on the same board.

Most typically, the second, or "sock" account acts as a hypeman for original account, but motives vary.

I think the name is a shortening of "sock puppet", with the second account being a puppet (or maybe ventriloquist dummy) for the original account.

The practice is considered bad form, at least on this board, and I think the moderators try to shut down such accounts when they detect them.
Fixed for accuracy.

I'm thinking lately that Ricky might wind up the fall guy here.
I love the way you think outside the box Meg.

That did not occur to me and you could be right.

It would be surprising though. Tocchet was the shortlist for JR/PA when they took the reins. Previous history, similar styles and approach. Not unheard of to happen though.

A twist on that.....does Tocchet want out because JR/PA committed to a player that he didn't think was a fit for the direction he wanted to take the team as head coach?
