Was his SV% not under .900?
Nuck fans loved him vs Nashville (numbers were great vs NAS).

Then he fell back to Earth vs those stinking Oilers.

...anomalies.

Where has he fallen to now is the question?

Oh he's crap. 100%.

Flush him!

I thought the question was... why did Nuck fans fall in love with him for 2 weeks.

(you did say "playoff love")

Nuckers all desperately needed him to be great when Demmer went down, and he was!

Somehow, magically... for a week or two... so... love.

But it's always 'What have you done for me lately' in the wide wide world of sports.

There was no question.

There was a statement.

Other than about the SV% one that is.

SV% was astronomical vs Nashville.

Now I want to send him back to Latvia.

Unless the Leaves want him of course.

Edmonton or Toronto

A perfect fit for their needs

Been waiting to do this, just doing a comparison of some current and former Nucks:

K.Sherwood: 21GP, 6G, 6A, 12PTS
D.Heinen: 21GP, 3G, 7A, 10PTS
J.Debrusk: 21Gp, 6G, 8A, 14PTS ($5.5M X 7)

V.Podkolzin: 22GP, 1G, 5A, 6PTS
E. Lindolm: 24GP, 3G, 10A, 13PTS ($7.7M X 7!!!)

As much as I liked Podz, gotta say mgmt is looking like they made the right moves thus far. Podz is still young and has lots of time to improve, but the recent winger, free agent signings are better than him. Gotta say, the pro scouting from this current regime is definitely better than the previous. Just gotta give props to the Lankinen signing that they also pulled off.

Gotta give a shout out to a former Nuck as well:

The Hockey Gawd (A.Gaudette): 21GP, 11G, 1A, 12PTS

I always liked the Hockey Gawd and happy to see that he's finally hitting his stride in the NHL. Oddly, he doing this under the tutelage of Greener who didn't seem to really like him when he was here, especially during that whole Covid situation. He also had that weird eating disorder that prevented him from gaining muscle/mass; he looks to be over that now and is listed @ a solid 187lbs.

Hopefully Gaudette can keep it up, if he can break 25Gs, he should get a similar multi-year contract of like $3M per like Hogs21. If Gaudette was still a Nuck, his 11G would easily be tops on the team, as EP40 has 7G. We did lose Brockstar to a number of games I guess.

It was a sticky situation to be in. Heard he went to CVS after to buy wet ones to clean up.

Back to Med's original post, I'd have to agree - and think that if the team had been complete and (mentally) firing on all cylinders, we would be a lot closer to last year's start.

But then that's the fun of following this team. Nothing comes easy, no consistency, and we should have been expected a roller-coaster after last year's performance.

Still, there's a lot of game left. Just need Demko back, EP40 and Miller to get their heads straight, the D to play a little tighter, and add a top 4 Dman. All of that's possible, and we should be good for 2nd in the division.

Hughes has been the lone bright, consistent light this year. I can't even remember the last time he had a bad game. He might go pointless, or appear average, but a bad game? We're spoiled. He'll be in the discussion for best ever Canuck (if he hasn't already claimed it).

Hughes has taken it to another level. When he takes it deep after evading his man at the point, unlike last year when he would threaten but then circle behind the net and around to the far boards, Perimetterson-like, he now drives across the goal mouth or into the slot (his last goal). It was what I was always waiting for him to do last year. I think there's more to come as he's still shooting short side and hasn't yet taken it to the far post.

I don't know Tops - Rob Blake made a good livin' throwing this type of hit. Same with Kronwall. Guys they hit certainly didn't consider them pansies. Douche bags maybe.

Could be.

Biz and Whit are pretty tuned in on the other hand.

Certainly more than any of the purported "real" media.

Realdia? (Sic)

I trust what they say more than most.

@ Hank...disagree...if is what's Friedperson yes....the Chiclets Dudes no.
I don't think there's much love lost between Miller and Pettersson. No surprise, they're not close buds at all. At least, not like Miller and Boeser, or Garland and Joshua.

...and that's okay. They don't have to be sniffing each other's farts to contribute to a winning team.

I think Biz and Whit may be wittingly/unwittingly over-stating the case. I don't think Pettersson and Miller hate each other to the point where it affects team chemistry. I also don't think they like each other much, but both of them want to win and I believe both of them understand what each other can bring to the table. If anything, perhaps Miller has been trying to 'toughen' Petey up and Petey hasn't appreciated it. Oil and water - who knows?

Tempest in a teapot, and if Hughes, Tocchet and management think it's a problem with no anticipated solution I wager we'd have seen movement already.

The dynamic reminds me of a scene back in the 1993 in Detroit when Federov scored, Primeau went to hug/congratulate Federov and Federov just skated away from him. Speculation was there was a rift/jealousy between the two. They also both won Cups with Detroit in '97 and '98.

Regression was anticipated. Tocchet said this year would be harder for the team, and I think this is what he was talking about - they are surprising no one this year.

Thing is, we haven't seen what this roster can really do because of injuries to/absences by key players. Hopefully they get everyone back by Christmas, but with the Hronek injury that doesn't seem likely. As long as they hit their full stride come February/March.

The FA additions are starting to look like management hit on almost all of them (Forbort being the exception IMO) - especially with De Brusk's recent uptick in production.

In terms of disappointments, you could put Petey in there but he's come around. Höglander perplexes me. Did everything asked of him over the off-season. Comes in and tops the fitness testing and earns rave reviews in camp... and then this. Gotta be something between the ears - crisis of confidence perhaps? He isn't taking to the pucks to the net like he did last season, nor is he shooting like he was last year either.

Šilovs... I just shake my head. The kid had the goods at the WC, and played well against Nashville before getting exposed by Edmonton - who did the same thing with Dallas. I don't know whether he thought he had it made, and this year is the result of him exhaling instead of ramping up the intensity and effort. Maybe Ian Clark worked him in ways that Torenius isn't. At this point, Demko can't come back quick enough, in order to send Šilovs to Abby to get his game back and grow. It always was a tad untenable to expect him to burgeon into a 1a at this stage given his developmental history.

Given what they've had to deal with thus far in the season, the record is no surprise and I'm not too fussed where they're at. They're hanging around in the hunt, and my sense is that they'll likely get better as players start coming back from the injured list.

Actually his SV% against Nashville was not astronomical.

.900
.909
1.000

The first two games he played good. Made some big saves. But his SV% was still below what one is hoping for in a good NHL starter for those first two games. He pitched a shutout, and that inflated his numbers massively in the 3 game sample size.

Not to take away how key he was finishing that series.
