So...about last night...
(Calm down Widow)
I was mostly watching closely to see how the important new lines/pairings/players would look for chemistry or whatever.
Sprong-Pettersson-Debrusk
Sprong- there's some David Booth qualities there lol. He's got great wheels but like Boothy, seems to fly by pucks and skate out of position regularly. I saw what I can assume was him trying to change his ways/instincts to blow the zone and leave his man while the puck is in his defensive end a few times. If coaching can get him to play between the puck and his net there's hope I figure.
Pettersson-still playing soft but gets the mulligan. When you have a down year with numbers like he had you get the benefit of the doubt. Besides, this blathering isn't about him
Debrusk-hes one of those guys who the puck seems to follow. He's always around the net, goes to the dirty areas, takes hits to make plays. He's got game. Love the signing
Heinen-Miller-Boeser
Heinen-not convinced he's a good fit on this line. He didn't do anything bad but he just didn't make much of an impression as of yet. He can skate and plays the right way but I didn't see any hidden dynamic offensive upside(preseason though so there may be time
Miller-rusty but who gives a fuck. He's the king
Boeser-really liked his touches. He's come back strong again and I would think puts up another great season if he can stay healthy. If he still looks like this in a month or so they have to sign him to an extension
The bottom 6 (these lines are still loaded with auditions)
Sherwood-watch him replace Heinen within a month. He's everywhere, hitting everything, stering the shit. love Love LOVE this signing
Hoglander-his game always suits reduced icetime. He shines when he's down the order and struggles when he plays above that level imo. Will likely hit the 20g mark again
Raty-is NHL ready now. Still 21, will he be better than bumper Bo when it's all said and done?
Bains-still an AHL star but doesn't look out of place on a 4th line. First call up
On D
Forbort- much better showing. Didn't look like a pylon at least.
Desharnais- excellent #5 in my eyes. No higher up the order though
Myers-picking up where he left off which is a giant relief because he had a career revival type of year
Soucy-rusty but damn good pairing with TM57
Quinn and Hronek- see JTM

A few comments;
$11.6M Scooter Boy, an elite turdline centre. Need to find a couple of line mates for Jake.
I had no idea just how awful Sprong is. Seeing Pod in the other teams lineup made it worse. Abby Bains was better than Sprong.
Overall, players were hitting their marks so their teammates knew where they were going and where they'd be. They were also doing so at full speed which tells a lot about the pace of the practices.
Ricky has loosened the reigns on creativity. How many short drop passes after gaining the blue line to a close following trailer did we see? Last year a move like that would have you house hunting in Alberta.
Pk was incredibly aggressive, come a long ways from the Green diamond in the rough.
Silovs was looking much more Demko like fluid in the net. Last year his moves were stiff and wooden, much smoother now.
Third pairing D was hopefully only a tryout for the 7/8 spot.
Suter and Garland push Bains and one of Raty, Aman or Sprong to Abby or the press box.
D I want to see
Hughes-Juuls
Hronek-Soucy
Meyers-Friedland/Deharnais

Hoglander Raty Sherwood
Joshua Bluegar Garland
Is a hell of a bottom six, if everyone gets heathy and last nights top six can stay together.
Depth is solid with I believe Bains and Aman, being waivers exempt, and Suter who isn’t.
Once healthy, I can see Suter being an early trade chip, since he is on an expiring contract, he didn’t do much in the playoffs, and he will still have good value based on the +17 he had last season, playing mostly with JT and Boeser - which won’t happen this season. With the Canucks improved winger depth he won’t likely find a role on the wing, and as a centre he loses the competition for a regular job to Bluegar and Raty.
If he can bring back something of value from a team desperate for a centre, the Baldies will trade him easily as I don’t think he’ll be resigned in the coming summer. They’ll roll with Aman and Sasson as centre depth.

Or move Suter to wing and punt Sprong

Suter plays D okay, but lacks offensively. They’ll want more offense on that line. I think Bains or Letter-Kenny are more likely to get a shot with Pettersson and DeBrusk than Suter.

Juulsen to the top pairing. Is he a relative? Myers on the bottom pairing when he's clearly the 4h best defender is hilarious. And EP is a 3rd line Centre. Someone get this man a new service dog
