Like something that has floated around for example... a young-ish top 6 center such as Cozens?
This frees up a bunch of cap for the short-term, while not losing any top 6 center depth. As I alluded to, we should be looking for offensive impact (not just a 1.0 PPG) from these two positions... making the offensive depth better, more consistent to improve overall scoring. Remember, they also walked away from a younger center who never scored at PPG and is a career 2C for someone who impacted the game more for lesser coin.
It's funny everyone was following the media like lemmings to move Miller's value contract before the movement claused kicked in, but is going apeshit at the mere suggestion that this might be an opportunity to really assess the situation and make adjustments if necessary... like they did quickly with Kuz and Sprong for example.
I think you have to look at planning the escape route if you truly don't believe the hype and impact of the player you just gave all your money to for a whackload of years. And if this regime can't improve the situation via trades, then are they overrated? I'm not suggesting this.
The savings could address the improvement in defensive depth while letting prospects marinate longer. Of course, it's a given that you still have to draft well to produce homegrown talent to replace older top 6 centers, top 4 dmen, etc.
There are different ways to improve team depth overall... no-one is saying EP for at top 4 dman is the only solution. Easier said than done, but that's why the Baldersons are paid the big bucks.

Despite the media's penchant for dumping kerosene on a smouldering fire, there is something wrong in the room. While every team has friction internally at times, I don't think any teams have had real success when the problem is between players who are expected to be leaders. Teams that play for each other first are far harder to play against. As Topper pointed out, the banter and teammate communication looks better with EP out of the lineup.
Brad Richardson is on record via Missin' Curfew commenting on the Miller vs EP "rumours".....
Do you know which episode it was? I'll go have a listen.

Richardson is basically just confirming what we already know about Miller, he’s a hard ass.
Journalistic license much?
That's not the entirety of what he said at all....
Were we not listening to the same thing. Richardson even said he thought Miller was being a bit too hard on Petey

Richardson on Miller and Petey
“Even I told him (Miller) you’re going to hard on the kid (Pettersson)

I hear that two ways.
One, Miller needs to read his audience to be an effective leader.
Two, Pettersson needs to man up, he took the big contract and now he needs to prove he's worth it.

The comment speaks indeed to Miller being a cunt.
It also speaks to EP being soft.

Sounds like a classic Boomer-Millennial tiff, where you have Mr. Old-School "tryin' to make a man" of an eggshell-fragile prodigy.
I'll believe that Miller is coming from a good place in trying to help toughen up his teammate - perhaps even at the instigation by coaching/leadership.
Even so, if the audience isn't appreciating your message, howsabout changing tack?
Pettersson can own part of this too. He needs to grow up and toughen up - and appreciate where his teammates are coming from if they're riding him.
This can be sorted out if they want to sort it out. If either or neither seem willing, time for Baldy to start picking up the phone.

I know of a hockey talk message board packed full of (mostly) reprobates who have been lamenting the lack of assholes on their Vancouver Canucks for years.
We have one.
Now some people want the asshole to go so we can go back to being a bunch of soft pussies.
You can't always beat them with skill on the PP. Sometimes you have to beat them in the alley where the goals are dirty as fuck and between the goals is even dirtier. Did 2011 teach us nothing?

It's a game that requires aggression and mental and physical toughness. If you're picking up the phone, you're not looking for suitors for the asshole.

Solid breakdown.

Yeah there are two sides to this story, nothing wrong with having a firey leader in the room pushing his teammates to be better. Petey is probably one of those classic millennials of today in that you get up in his grill to make him better he gets butt hurt about it. IMO it’s a case of Miller being too hard on your typical millennial but when even Richardson tells JT you’re being too hard there’s some legitimacy to it. I’ve got some employees who I can scream at and some I can’t or they’ll end up crying, it’s a new world now.

Why you screaming at your employees, Boomer?
PS. You're expected to channel your inner Tina Turner these days and tell them, "You're simply the best, better than all the rest..."

Young Petey was harder on himself after a mistake than anyone could have been on him. He pushed himself to be better. We saw it in his play, Boudreau mentions it from the moment he arrived in town.
Scooter is defensive of his efforts.
We know he can and needs to do more. RoboSwede implies that Scooter isn't dealing well with the pressure of the contract he demanded. Maturity is an issue.
He's the emo kid struggling to come out of the closet.

Honestly, you've always had employees like that Chef. The difference is that back then the ones who cried would usually toughen up.....now they get coddled and most of them don't. This generational stuff in nonsense, it's not like it is genetically hardwired by nature, it is pure nurture.
Hockey has always been a hard game, it's nearly as physical as football, requires the agility of basketball, and the hand-eye of the best hitters in baseball as well as the stamina of soccer. Throw in some track elements and the do it all while trying to stay on your feet on one of nature's slipperiest solid mediums all while standing on little metal strips that are less than 1/8" wide. You have to be tough as hell to play this game at the pro level, both mentally and physically.
Does anyone think that this team could possible win if it's led by someone who can't handle adversity and conflict?
Has any team won with wimpy divas in the leadership group?
