How about...Nylander AND Bearchi both suck.
It fits because its true
Yes, but one is half the price of the other.
Which makes it satisfying that the double priced sucker is sucking up precious maple laugh cap space

The Canucks are probably not going be in the mix if Nylander is put on the table anyways.
That does NOT mean Moving forward with Baertschi is a good plan.
Not a reliable line-mate for Horvat.
No Grit.
And now, officially isn't able or allowed to have grit. "No dirty areas". mm

Listening to some of his last interviews, he is scared of what could happen. And it could.
His point totals suck considering who he's been gifted a chance to play with.
"Go get em, Sven !", just doesn't sound right anyways.
He does give the impression of looking smooth and poised but there is NO consistency.

I'd prefer to sign a different guy to a 2-3 year deal for free (i.e. give up no assets) rather than pick up Nylander - Connolly, Eberle, Anders Lee, Ferland, etc. Ideally you don't have to commit to the # of years Nylander has left plus take on a big yearly number as well.
There's a few guys with the chance to be as good or better than Nylander this draft in Boldy, Krebs, Caufield, Newhook, etc, and they're younger on ELCs. Might take them a year or two but we have time, rather focus on that.

I agree Diehard. Softie Playoff no show Nylander is extremely overpaid. He needs Matthews to pad his Presidents Trophy season stats like how playoff no show Ehlers needs Laine to pad his Presidents Trophy Season stats. Is Connolly from BC? He could be worth looking at just don’t sign him to Andrew Ladd money.

If you get Lucic, you can draft Caufield & his likely perennial 40 goal season's.

So you acquire the slowest player in the league and draft the next Cody Stumps in Caulfield and his short choppy skating when the game now is about speed and skill? SKYO? Not every 5’-6” smurf is the next DeBrincat.

The strong American contingent of Hughes, Zegras, Turcotte, Boldy and Caulfield actually makes drafting 10th overall not bad. We should be getting a player. The more I think about the more I hope we draft a forward. But it’s Benning, and for that, I see us drafting a D-man.

If the Canucks can find a buyer for Loui and Sutter, would Edmonton trade the 8th if the Canucks took both Lucic and Russel back in the deal?
That's 10 mil off the books for them, Lucic would have to waive his NMC as part of the deal and moving forward so he doesn't take up a roster spot at the expansion draft.

Really not sure that’s worth moving up 2 spots in the draft. At least not enough to live with Lucic’s contract for 4 more years

Unlikely to happen now with Holland the new GM in Edmonton, as he loves draft picks. I expect the Oil will begin ripping it down again this offseason though they’ll probably try to get better quickly, as Holland also loves to stay competitive when he has star players like McDavid.

1. Hughes - NJD
2. Kakko - NYR

6. Podkozlin - Wings
7. Caulfield - Sabres
8. Boldy - Oilers
9. Dach - Ducks
10. ?
Krebs, Newhook, Zegras, Broberg, Soderstrom???

The Oilers need a lot of work, goaltending, defence, wingers and a bottom 6. They are quite awful after McDavid and Draisaitl. The proper moves by Holland will be patience. What’s the rush? They have McDavid and Draisaitl locked up up for a while. They are stuck with Lucic.

If the Canucks apparently want to make a splash on draft day the only way I see it happening is trading back a few spots and getting another 2nd round pick or doing what the Devils did with their first round pick in front of their fans - trading it for a young established player. We simply don’t have the assets to acquire another top pick, or not deep enough to make such a deal.
Tanev? No. Our D isn’t good enough to lose him for the wait of another prospect to develop
Demko? No. Markstrom gets injured we’d be fucked
Tryamkins rights? Wouldn’t get you much. A 3rd round pick?
Gaudette and live with Sutter until Madden? Maybe
Virtanen? No. He’s a bargain for us

Lol the Canucks are not in any position to be trading first round picks for “young established players”.

What scares the living shit out of me is Benning trading the 2020 1st rounder. That is likely a lottery pick and he’s going into a lame duck year as GM. He’s going to pull out all the stops to keep his tenuous grip on his job. I can see a couple moonshots in free agency and him dangling the 2020 pick. That’s a better draft next year and I don’t see this team improving much next year or getting 24 games into OT.
