Kadri on Lupul: "I think he's ready to go and I think he's excited about the season."
@mirtle 7:15 AM - 22 Sep 2016
Statement From Joffrey Lupul
“IT’S WITH DEEP REGRET THAT I WILL BE UNABLE TO ATTEND TRAINING CAMP AND START THE SEASON WITH THE leaves DUE TO INJURY. I PLEDGE TO WORK HARD WITH A VIEW TO RETURN TO PLAYING THIS SEASON. HOCKEY IS THE ONLY LIFE I HAVE KNOWN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL TIME FOR ME. ACCORDINGLY, I WILL NOT BE MAKING ANY FURTHER COMMENT AT THIS TIME.”

Wutevs...
Like I said two months ago, they won't use it all but Leaves will have close to $17M worth of LTIR available:
Horton $5.3M
Lupul $5.25
Cowen $3.1M
Robidas $3M
Then there's the cap-dump players they took on:
Laich $4.5M
Michalek $4M
Greening $2.65M
Buyout:
Gleason $1.33M
Retained:
Kessel $1.2M
Total = over $30M in dead cap, not to mention presently injured Andersen is a huge gamble at $5M.
Effectively this is a well-below the floor team, yet most Leaf fans think they will make the playoffs.

And it was.
For me it was. The hockey was great and it was the best Canuck team ever.

Haters gonna hate. I hate the leaves with a passion but Id trade Vancouvers five best young players ( 22 and under) + 2017 first for Torontos best young five + 2017 1st every day of the week. They have a few shitty contracts to ditch over the next two to three years but NEITHER team will be competitive during that time. The leaves have more elite pieces due to drafting so high and actually selling UFA st the deadline instead of hanging onto them like grim death to carry the culture.

Ahh but they will fuck it up, the Hockey Gods will make sure of that.
They always do.
Mathews and Nylander can't save that sinking ship.
And Marner will bust...
Yes because he's only 3 inches taller than Gaudreau. Too small!

But the Canucks lost.
No, ya think?
Not the point.
What's yours?

I think you believe he' too small.
Good luck with that "Bust" fantasy. He's a top 3 NHL prospect. Did you see the year he had last year? Elite talent.
Best 17 year old PPG in OHL since 1985
1. Connor McDavid - 2.61
2. Eric Lindros - 2.61
3. Sam Gagner - 2.23
4. Marc Savard - 2.11
5. Jason Spezza - 2.10
6. Joe Thornton - 2.07
7. John Tavares - 2.00 7. Mitchell Marner - 2.00
9. Jeff O'Neill - 1.91
10. Owen Nolan - 1.91

Sam Gagner, Jeff O'Neill.....Mitch Marner. Sounds about right.

So let's see, he's 19.5 years old right now... and he was 17 last year?
Yeahno, that was two years ago bud... and he did not improve at all last season.
But when all is said+done no one is going to care about what he did on a stacked junior team.
Two NHL rookie tournaments in two years... he has sucked severely at both now.
The moves he makes in the OHL don't work for him in the NHL.
(mostly because he can't make those moves at top speed)
(also because the NHL has great backchecking forwards and great-skating play-the-body dee)
Matthews and Nylander(until he gets concussed-for-life) will make the grade, but Marner will not.
And the Leaves will suck for all eternity, but you knew that...

So that list contains mostly behemoths and a couple brick sh*thouses. The two comparables size-wise are:
#3 Gagner, who had modest success and was/is a constant hurt-bag.
#4 Marc Savard, who was a great talent and a complete hurt-bag.
If I was forced to bet, I'd go with the odds (& Doc) and say the deck's stacked against him to become the elite NHL talent you keep claiming he will be. Exhibit B, is you claiming that he will be an elite NHL talent. That's the kiss of death if ever there was one because I can not recall one instance of your BS leaves propaganda coming to fruition, particularly when it comes to prospects and new TML acquisitions. If by chance Marner does buck said odds and becomes a bonafide NHL star, chances are still good he becomes more fodder for the nhl concussion class-action.
