The Canucks should only entertain a trade scenario with him if he makes it clear he will not re-sign with them or he demands something like 18 - 20 mil per season in his next contract.
Right, that becomes part of the conversation.
Will he or won't he walk?
....and are we as a fan base confident the Canuck power brokers will do enough to satisfy his thirst to win?
And is there historic proof that they are capable of this....both have had success elsewhere so maybe there is, albeit with a different ownership contingent.
Anyway, I'm not advocating either side...there is a good overall debate to be had there but, irrespective of the "that's1 reason why we are here" scenario, I doubt the appetite for it is currently in place.
Carrying on....

Certainly fun to dream - would love to rebuild this team, from a small, slow, and oft-injured one to a big, bruising, fear-inspiring group.
Trade high on Garland and add Hoglander for a bigger winger - Aliaksei Protas(6'6").
Send Hughes over to Detroit for Mo Seider(6'2"), Edvinsson(6'6") and Elmer Soderblom(6'8").
Offer Petey, Letterkenny and Mancini up to the Bruins for Zedorov(6'7"), Zacha(6'4") and Beecher(6'3")
ETC. ETC.
Have a minimum size of 6'4" for all draftees, and run a training camp that includes a fight club in the evenings.

I did start that conversation with "a dream" - but on the note of seriousness. This team is too small, with too many "what ifs" in terms of health. Not really seeing a way forward, without rebuilding.
They have world class goaltending (when healthy), a top 3 defensemen in the league - and some good players in support positions, Hronek, Boeser etc. But just not enough for me to believe they are just a couple of pieces away from contention.
Honestly, I am onboard for a rebuild - and moving on from the Petey/Hughes core. Getting some good young pieces, that do have size and skill and build around that.
Then there is the worry about the lot of us fans, Rats, Reef etc. Are we going to be around for the next 5-7 years waiting on that? Some posters have already lost interest in this team. Can Van survive a rebuild even if the owners go for it? I would think it would be fun watching some new kids get a go at it, look at MTL. They are fun to watch, even with the ups/downs. But I'm a die-hard, who is still in his 40s and <knock on wood> healthy.
