The Rebuild...

Re: The Rebuild...
Without sacrifice, there can be no victory. (ok just watched transformers trailer)
We must struggle with the old core being sacrificed slowly since 2014.
We must build up prospects, build the defense first as they take the longest to develop, like the Blackhawks did with Keith and Seabrook.
Then hope to gutter out to get a high end pick with elite scoring ability, Bo is looking like a Toews light, just serious about winning.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
Re: The Rebuild...
Whatever TL said in that interview with Luke Fox (sportsnet), isn't going over very well.
I didn't hear it but it seems people are taking it that a rebuild wouldn't be fair to the Sedins.
Driving around yesterday, I heard on 2 different radio stations, the Sedins referred to as "The Sisters".
Haven't heard that for a while.
A lot of angry fans out there it seems.

Re: The Rebuild...
Is what they're doing right now fair to the Sedins? At the end of the day, are the results any different? We were 3rd worst last year, we're 4th worst this year. If we're not rebuilding...what the fuck are we doing? Would the results change drastically if we moved a couple guys like Hansen and Edler? Frankly, I think blaming the Sedins for managements refusal to rebuild is unfair.
Re: The Rebuild...
Agreed; I'm just trying to figure out what the hell TL is trying to sell to the ticket buyers?

Re: The Rebuild...
This whole thing reeks of Trevor Linden, the ex NHLPA Board Member. He's thinking too much from a players stand point instead of a Presidents stand point. He should be putting the team's best interest, moving forward, first...instead of a couple aging hockey players. Tear the fucking bandaid off. I love the Sedins, they have given a lot to this team but business is business. They are big boys, they can handle it. They don't seem to mind tearing it down in Arizona with old man, long time Coyote Ambassador - Shane Doan still hanging on for dear life. But Mike Smith don't seem to like it.Island Nucklehead wrote:Is what they're doing right now fair to the Sedins? At the end of the day, are the results any different? Asking to try and win, instead of telling them to not try and to lose.

Yeah, this just smacks of Calgary at the end of Iginla/Kipper era. And we're not even looking to trade the Sedins...RoyalDude wrote: This whole thing reeks of Trevor Linden, the ex NHLPA Board Member. have I suggested trading Edler and Hansen?

No, but you could make such moves and still ask the team to win, with similar results.Topper wrote:have I suggested trading Edler and Hansen?

Re: The Rebuild...
At the end of the day, it's not an easy situation. I get what Trevor is saying, you'd have to be a stunted dickhead to not get where Trevor is coming from regarding how the Sedins are affecting the mandate. Do I agree with it? Well, from the outside looking in, probably not, but I'm sure it's not that cut and dry on the inside. I got the sense from the "interview" that Trevor wants to do a full rebuild but can't out of respect for the Sedins, you hear it right at the very end of the interview.Island Nucklehead wrote:Yeah, this just smacks of Calgary at the end of Iginla/Kipper era. Re: The Rebuild...
Trading Edler is not going to be easy with that NTC. He married a local Vancouver girl, a close friend of Linden's wife, and they just built a fancy home in Kitsilano/kerrisdale area. You will pretty much be in a Kesler situation, him naming one team, and expect it to be close to Vancouver like one of the California teams.Island Nucklehead wrote:No, but you could make such moves and still ask the team to win, with similar results.Topper wrote:have I suggested trading Edler and Hansen?
Miller won't get you much due to what looks like will be a glut in available goalies near the deadline. UFA's will pretty much be the only goods getting moved due to the trickiness of the expansion draft, I only see us trading Burrows, maybe. I am kind of seeing Linden's point on re-signing Miller as Demko will need at least two years in the minors. It always takes the College goalies a while to warm up the NHL. I don't see us trading Hansen at all, they like him too much.

Re: The Rebuild...
If Miller is fine signing for one season at 2 or 3 million bucks and playing 30-35 games that's doable. If they are bringing him back at 5 million and getting the lions share of the workload again that's fucking asinine.

Hopefully he leaves the thinking to his GM, is a good fan and keeps the wallet open!Reefer2 wrote:Agreed but what does Aqua man think?Blob Mckenzie wrote:If Miller is fine signing for one season at 2 or 3 million bucks and playing 30-35 games that's doable. Ya, right!

Re: The Rebuild...
WTH. Benning has come out and said that he will NOT ask Edler, Burrows, Hansen, Miller and whoever else that has a 'no-trade' clause in their contract, to consider forgoing their no-trade clause in order to move them before the trade deadline!
Who is this frikin guy?? A player agent? One of the primary purposes assigned to his role is to improve the club by any and all means available to him. Ya wonder if it really has occurred to him that the team IS in fact in need of rebuilding and acquiring draft picks is in fact a crucial part of the process. He was able to press on Bieksa and Garrison early on in his tenure here, and now he has eased off and adopted this no touch approach to players. Last year it appeared as though the whole concept of a trade deadline caught him by surprise - no talk about it until the last week and then his options were pretty much cooked.
Yeah, really not liking what I'm seeing here with Mr. Jim Elmer Benning. We essentially are the Vancouver Flames/leaves past versions of rebuilding.
