My spoons are straight
He had a TV show back in the day where they proudly proclaimed:
"If you can prove anything on this show is a trick, we will give you $50,000"
Or something like that.
I was into magic for awhile as a kid and so I watched intently.
William Shatner was a guest-star one episode.
Kreskin laid out 20 large cards (5 x 4 rows?) on a table and then had himself blindfolded.
He told Captain Kirk not to touch any cards, but to choose a card to start...
Then he told him to count the month of his birthday, then the day, etc, in left to right/up and down fashion.
Finally ending upon a certain card, he said "Flip it over."
Twas a pic of William Shatner.
"Flip over all the rest of the cards."
They were all blank.
Shatner was completely stunned.
Well I immediately recognized it as a simple math trick!
Shatner's birthdate/etc were common knowledge.
I laid out 20 cards and did the counting over and over... starting at each card.
Every single time I ended on the same exact card... 4th card over; 3rd card down (whatever).
And I knew that would be the case even as Kreskin was performing the trick.
My parents said "Good going, but those bastards are not going to pay anyone that $50K."
From that moment on I loathed the very core of "The Amazing Kreskin".
Also, Captain Kirk went from my hero to a zero and I started hanging in the park at night.
