Robert Morris, a former Trump campaign spiritual adviser, pleads guilty to child sex abuse. The Dallas-based ex-megachurch pastor was taken away in handcuffs and must register as a sex offender.
Morris, a founding pastor of the Dallas-based Gateway megachurch — one of the country’s largest — was accused by an Oklahoma woman, Cindy Clemishire, of sexual abuse in the 1980s, beginning when she was 12 and continuing until the age of 16.
In 2016, Morris was appointed to Trump’s evangelical advisory board during his presidential campaign. At a 2020 roundtable discussion with faith leaders in Texas, Trump thanked two pastors, one of whom was Morris, for attending, saying,
“They’re great people. Great people with a great reputation. I have to say that. Great reputation. And Gateway Church — the team has been incredible in hosting us.”

Hey UW, what is your honest assessment of how Trump is doing? I’m curious and not from any disrespectful way but I would like know your thoughts on what he is doing and how?
For the record I agree with some of his ideas of bloated government and the abuse of the immigration but I don’t like his methods of addressing them. I also find it interesting that he is only going after democratic states and not sending in any troops to red states yet they seem to have the same issues.
Canada needs to do more and expel anyone who is past their visa expiry dates but that won’t happen.

Which of his ideas do you agree with Reef?
Bloated government is a popular target but in reality 73% of the US government budget is non-discretionary spending (which includes social security, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans benefits and interest payments). You'd have to eliminate ALL of the remaining 27% discretionary spending if you want to balance the budget which obviously isn't going to happen. Reducing bloat on the discretionary side is going to have minimal impact. It's a drop in the bucket which is what I think DOGE found out.
You could work on the other side of the equation by increasing revenues, but Trump has cut taxes for the wealthy.
Paradoxically he has also cut funding for the IRS even though every $1 spent on audits returns at least $3 in revenue (some estimates placed the ratio much higher). So, in this case at least, what appears to be reducing bloat is actually hurting the government financially.

Of my experience of working for almost 20 years within different government entities I have seen first hand of how governments follow the flavour of the month and create an expensive program to try and address it yet the $$$ they spend is on internal labour costs vs. actually spending money on the problem. In many cases there are more than capable NGOs who are more capable of delivering the services at a significant cost savings.
Within organizations there is an empire building mentality where reductions in head-count is not sought after, becoming more efficient instead of increasing staffing levels is not followed. More is merrier, then more staff requires more management and IT and software licenses etc.
I have seen some political interference in companies but luckily I have not been subject to this as much as others. I remember one time I had to go to my bosses boss about a potential conflict. We both then went to see his boss which is 3 layers above me and I felt extremely uncomfortable because I was about to tell him what he was doing was wrong and in conflict with the organizations policies. luckily he was totally understanding and followed my direction on what to do. Other not so much, the higher up you are the less you are inclined to listen to others. They base decisions on who took them out to dinner or met with them or who will contribute to their party etc.
As I said I do not like his model that he just went in and cut departments that he didn't like or who was in his way. I was agreeing that government needs to have less hands on day to day and let others more experienced and lean do it. Government should be the oversite and ensure they are getting true value for money. I totally agree that costs for certain social services is set and should not be reduced.
I can have a complete different discussion on funding for social services, my feeling is that everyone wants things to be free or low cost but not willing to pay for it through taxes.
