The 'new" regime isn't new. They were dredge out of an Abbotsford recycle depot.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2026 11:44 pm The plus in all this is that the new regime is getting an up close and personal look at who is who out there. It may take awhile still to get a market for any of our vets. But the longer this goes on the less we need as a return to move on from some of them. Cleaning house takes time.
Think it is funny that RJ said we need all these vets so we don't get our asses handed to us, or punched in the gut every game. That is exactly what is happening.
I advocate playing the younger Finn and let him have a run to see if he is what we need down the road. Buy out the older Finn when Demko is back. Unless you can trade him for a bag of pucks with minimal retention, if he agrees to waive.
Set up trade deadline deals as early as January if you can.
Speaking of feel good stories, never though DPetey was really NHL caliber but I have been impressed with him this season. I am impressed that he wants to be the next Luke Schenn and with his O abilities he is beginning to show.

We cannot bury him in the minors, ever. Even a MNC means no waivers. A NTC is different. So his trade protection drops to a limited number of teams but he does not give up the NMC for waivers.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 6:12 pmI agree we are getting clobbered every game, but Vets can help youngsters get over the repeated clubbings. "look to next game", forget the last one kinda thing..Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2026 11:44 pm The plus in all this is that the new regime is getting an up close and personal look at who is who out there. {edit} -- no buy outs of Diesel. We are better off riding out his contract, burying him in the minors when the NMC lets up next year. I dont want to be paying that prick in 2032 when we are trying to compete. Last regime made that mistake, this one better not.

I don’t think that’s right. Typically, once the NMC ends, and the 15 team M-NTC kicks in next season, they can waive him to Abbotsford. They still have to pay his full one way salary, but he wouldn’t take up a roster spot. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works unless there is something special in Lankinen’s contract.

If his NMC shifts to a modified no trade clause then yes, you are correct he can be waived. If it shifts to a modified no movement clause then he cannot. Either way it shifts to a 15 team no trade list. So the question is, is it a MNT or a MNM. I have seen it written as both so I am not sure. I'm actually not sure if it is a 15 no trade or a 15 trade to list. Good question. Where is Doc when we need him.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 8:50 pm I don’t think that’s right. I'll try to research a bit cause I want to know. If it is a MNT then ya I'd keep him and waive him and hopefully he gets picked up or at least we have a good AHL goalie down there. The cap won't be a problem for us for awhile yet.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 26-27
So it seems you are correct. As of July 1st 2027 he has a 15 no trade list so a M-NTC. Hronek has a 15 no trade list July 1st 2028 so a M-NTC.
Indeed Lankinen can be waived after July 1st. So can they find a way to keep all three goalies until July 1st or do they have a frank discussion with him now and tell him he is gone so he either waives now or gets waived next season?
Pettersson meanwhile has a full NMC for the duration of his contract.
Boeser's M-NTC kicks in 29-30, 15 team no trade
Debrusk has a M-NTC 15 team no trade July 1, 2027.
So worse case we can trade Lankinen and Debrusk after July 1 2027. The following year Hronek and the year after that Boeser.
