They have the cap space now with no one worth signing. Don’t drag the debt into future years with a buy out when the team may be good then and they may have players worth signing and need the cap space. They have to carry Lankinen this year as a third goalie if Demko returns. But next season his NMC ends and he can be waived to Abbotsford if he can’t be traded with a sweetener and/or retention. When the cap is tight again they can think of buying him out, but there is no need right now, and the longer they keep paying him, the less time the buyout lasts and the cheaper it gets. Just say no to buyouts!
The magic words.
We shouldn’t do a damn thing with Diesel this season. His legacy will be a small sign, hanging in the office where contract negotiations take place, written with a sharpie marker in block letters that reads: “remember the contract”.
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.
I'm going to say it now - EP40's contract is going to age well. Thank you Leo Carlsson.
He is playing in a pressure-less environment with the entire fanbase soured by the disappearing act the last 2 years and increasing apathy.
I believe there's a good chance he'll average a PPG this season - someone is going to get the big minutes and PP time. If he stays on track, he will become a tradeable asset again.
Personally I think we should apply the Cody Hodgson treatment and hope for the best. Yes he'd need to waive his NMC but I expect players will be more open to waiving after another half-season of losing.
