SOB was a decent player early in. Had enough natural ability to be a regular, obviously brought the toughness, fitness was always suspect.
I wonder why he never reached his potential

I find it interesting that Billy Geurin say that he was dealing with JR on this one (Huggy trade). Makes sense as it blockbuster lvl.

On Huggy, if Makar gets $20M, Huggy should get around $18-$19M. I will be surprised if Billy G can extend him though, it pretty clear where his heart/intent is.

Re: Past Canuck Players
Is it clear? I think its clear that he'd like to play with Jack at some point, and Luke would be cool too (though he's expressed some ambivalence about that since he knows it would be taking away Luke's PPQB job (which its not clear Luke is especially good at)). So we know Jack, we don't know Luke beyond good in theory but then again....) When is that point? ASAP? Or will "when Jack's a FA" be god enough?Todd Bersnoozi wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2026 9:42 pm I will be surprised if Billy G can extend him though, it pretty clear where his heart/intent is.
But I think its also pretty clear that the guy would like to win. The Devils are in many ways similar to the Canucks from the Bubble Season to the Division Title +1 -- a team that projects more talent than they earn in points, with stretches that make you think they can get it together, which in turn results in a heck of a lot of running it backs after a year of disappointments. Oh, and injuries that are either a string of back luck and small sample sizes, indicative of a rocky relationship with the Hockey Gods, or something wrong with how they train.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if the question of whether to extend with the Wild is influenced by how they are playing in the first half of the year. WIll Kaprizov be mopey losing his buddy Zucarello? Is the obvious center depth issue going to be addressed, might Trenin grow considerably? Will this be the year Brodin and Spurgeon lose their effectiveness?
And each will watch the Devils too.
The thing is, there's no way to really know what's going on in his head through press interviews, and what he says about thinking it through and "when he's ready" is as plausible as all of the tea leaf readings.

I keep coming back to Florida. They’ve become such an enticing destination for a variety of legit reasons, and he’s got his homies Brady and Turtle warming up his stall.
