GDT: Predators @ Canucks March 12, 2026 @ 7:00 PM BCST SNP
In my never-ending attempt at distraction to avoid the reality of the Canuck’s current plight, and to avoid any discussion of the players in the actual line-up, while still fulfilling my obligation to create a somewhat topical Game Day Thread, I present the socio-political-economic reasoning to cheer for the Buffalo Sabres during the 2026 playoffs:
* Capitalism (Win/Win): Peaceful co-existence of fair trade, innovation, luck, industry and growth. This is the Nirvana of the NHL—a state of grace enjoyed only by ownership, player agents, the 1970s Canadiens, the 80s Oilers, Gary Bettman, and Bill F’in’ Daly.
* Mercantilism (Win/Lose): Trump politics, the exploitation of the weak, colonialism, cronyism, and dog-eat-dog competition. This is the natural state of hockey for most every NHL team that isn't a 1970s expansion cousin.
* Communism (Lose/Lose): Failure in all aspects of the human condition, the cursed and the damned—Buffalo and Vancouver.
Obviously, in the unlikely event that one of these damned teams breaks the lose/lose cycle and lifts Lord Stanley’s Cup, it would act as an exorcism for the expansion class, removing all curses. Buffalo winning would shatter the perennial lose/lose barrier and open the possibility that the Canucks could eventually do the same - perhaps - maybe - someday in the far, far distant future.
Yes, we’ll all be dead by then, but think of the children!
Go Buffalo Go!

Boy! Getting an early start on this one! Wasn't expecting the pro-Sabres manifesto, but hey - whatever works!

Let's turn the GDTs over to Cherry Picker from now on. He has blossomed into the bard of the Corner.

To tell the truth, I’m a fraud.
I didn’t want to have to admit this publicly, but recently, I’ve been wanting the team to win.
I’m ashamed.
I think one win and I’m done.
I can hardly live with myself as it is.

Just think of each loss as having your boot on Mr. Aquilini's neck, CP.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 6:09 pmNope!Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:56 pm Let's turn the GDTs over to Cherry Picker from now on. He has blossomed into the bard of the Corner.![]()

Face down, in a dirty mud puddle. This is almost entirely about that for me. And the rest of it is the pick, and getting the clowns fired from their management jobs.
We need to stay strong here.

You're not a fraud, PoC.
All we need is one measly point to not go down in recent history as one of the most shameful franchises at home.
Frank(ly) speaking, it would be great to set this record for the Aqua clan, but even this sad-sack team can't be this bad, right? Right?!

Although in 56 years, we've been one of the most shameful franchises at home and away... in all of professional sports. As long as the Canucks pick up one more point on home ice during their final 10 games at Rogers Arena this season, they’ll ensure that at least they won’t have the worst home record in the last 55 years.

Not yet- but according to AI....Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 3:59 pm Are we mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet????
Tragic Number: Their "tragic number"—the combination of points lost by the Canucks and points gained by the lowest playoff-seeded team—is currently 22 points.
Elimination Window: Analysts expect mathematical elimination to occur within the next 11 results (roughly 14 to 18 days).

The Tank Commander is on.
Scratching Hoglander, after what many would think have been his best stretch of games this year?
Why not scratch DeBrusk or EP40? Both have been abysmal (unless shot blocking is the stat you're looking for).
Foote continues to prove he is the right coach for this team.
