Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the trade. I get the need for Rossi, but was there a possibility of a 2027 1st as you suggest instead of Ohgren?
Only a short while ago, the talk was a hybrid retool, so young players made sense. Now suddenly the tank has made a U-turn towards a rebuild... more bullets are better then.
Of course, 5 picks are better than 4.
Anyway, I'm just hockey talking.

It can still be two 1sts when in a couple of years we'll realize Rossi's age doesn't align with the new core.

Guerin said the 4 assets he gave up were his first offer.
So yeah...I imagine Humpty and Dumpty did not even bother bartering further...
Anybody watch Hughes' first game in Minny? They had Guerin in the booth for most of the 2nd period and he was very candid about how the trade went down. Pretty much what Donny said in that he offered his best package as first offer and JR accepted right right away.
What struck me is when he followed up by saying "thank God he didn't ask for more".
Translation: thank God I didn't have to give up more.
When I heard that I had little doubt we coulda squeezed something more if our guy didn't have Kramer-esque negotiation skills. Would it hurt to ask if not for another future 1st, maybe a 2nd or even 3rd/4th...or get creative with a performance/signing based conditional pick? Pretty sure BG would've at least been open to discussion based on his tone.
Or just say I'll get back to you and maybe he comes back with something extra (not like that package was going anywhere else). Every bit of capital you can squeeze is critical to this team right now. Lucky he didn't offer coffee for life.
