Eastvander is not going to be in Scooter's ear over that, in fact chances are he would be almost the opposite. I think they would both ride the highs of success (should they have it) but also the lowest of lows when facing adversity.
Eastvander will be in Petey's ear every time he doesn't score or doesn't get the puck or they get scored on. Any time something happens on the ice which damages Eastvander's next contract is going to be Petey's fault and Petey will hear about it.

Eastvander is all about himself. If he has individual success, everything will be fine, no matter the score of the game. As soon as things don't go his way and Petey's centring him, you better believe it will be Petey's fault and he'll hear about it all the way to the bench.
This has never been the book on Kane. He has always been considered a good teammate in the ways that matter. He is not one to hang with the team off ice and has a lot of personal issues around arrogance and selfishness. But being a heart guy on the ice has never been a problem. I don't recall any stories about on ice friction. And yes, Ive seen him plenty protect his teammates.

Kane is not the saviour for us. He gives us another top 6 LW to go with DeBrusk. We still have to plug holes on the RW. Is the Kid ready for full time NHL duty? Is Linus Karlsson ready? One or both may get a shot to join the club. Right now we have Garland and Sherwood.

Maybe Kane drops to the third line along with Joshua. I dunno. He isn't the missing piece but he is an upgrade.

They're officially at throw shit at wall stage. Not unlike Benning's lame duck years making desperate moves to save a job. Expect OEL trade version 2.0 in 48 hours.

The only upside I see from this Kane deal is that he's on the final year of his deal. He's had some good playoff success in recent years and if he has a good statistical year, and we're out of it by March (which is very likely), I'm sure there will be a decent list of contenders willing to offer up a high pick to bid. Flipping a 4th for a 2nd or possible even a late 1st would be pretty shrewd and the kind of moves and foresight thinking approach they need to be taking.

Oh wait... I forgot who the owner is. Darn.

Apparently the Aqualini’s have always wanted Kane and may have played a part in it. This could be more of that ownership meddling we’ve seen from these clowns. Both are from East Van. Would’nt be surprised.

Apparently/rumours/word on the street/deep throat is that an extension with Demko is close meaning a hit to the $7 million left in cap space is coming.

Huge money tied up in two goalies. Interesting

Ole Tommy (Botchford Reincarnated) Drancer is now drooling over how to clear cap space. Suggesting we move Joshua and/or Blueger to make room. The comedy circus continues, stay tuned.

If the rumours are true and Demko is extended I imagine Silovs is getting dangled? Silovs is no longer waiver exempt. Or Lankinen is moved? With Kane on board now I wonder if that puts Sherwood on the block? He’s a UFA next summer. Or Joshua?

Doesn't Lank have a NMC?

Whatever's the case, if they do extend Demmer, I would wait a couple of months into or halfway through the season before looking to trade any goalie.

I understand the urgency is that Arty's no longer waiver exempt, but I think it is vital to find out all three of these things first:

1) If Demko is healthy and returns to form.

2) If last year's performance by Lankinen isn't an aberration.

3) If Silovs is ready for the Bigs as no worse than a reliable backup (which he clearly wasn't last year).

What management is doing with Demko is absolutely the right play because if both Lank and Arty fail, no matter what they try to do to fix the upcoming season will not matter whatsoever. I've said it many times Demko is your best path to any kind of success. Of course, the big question is his health.

So then, how do you approach next season? I would give Silovs the longest look in preseason to hopefully get a sense, then start him in the minors (assuming you can do this before he's claimable, not sure). Then alternate Demmer and Lank to start the season to hopefully answer their questions.

Unless there's a Godfather offer out there, I would not start the season with only 2 of our 3 guys.

Kane got bullied.

Big difference.
Kaner is a way better bully on the ice though, he likes to talk trash and he's willing to drop the gloves. :P

I like this move, basically a low risk trade. He basically got all of last season off to recover/heal, so he should be fresh. He's on a contract year, so he should be motivated and hungry to earn a new somewhat lucrative contract. Also as mentioned, if he has a decent year and we out of the playoffs by TDD, he'll be a very tradable asset. We'll upgrade from that 4th rounder easy.

I was thinking of trading Demmer35 for Kaner, but mgmt did better and got it done with only a 4th rounder. There were a few guys I really wanted to see as a Nuck: Buffy, Big Looch, Zaddy and Eastvander Kane. 2/4 is not bad. Unfortunately he is like 34 now, but better late than never. :D

I also like the fact that he was a Nucks fan when he was a wee lad in East Van, has a Nucks logo tattooed on his butt like us.

I would definitely like to see if Kane can gel with with EP40. Kane is that power forward type (big body, physical presence, decent hands) that can potentially compliment & get the best out of Petey.

Good post...

If it doesn't work out then they deal him at the draft for likely a higher pick than it cost to aquire him and if it does work out then he resigns and maybe gives the team a home town discount...

As for EP and last years lockeroom drama, what's that saying? The best time to get on a plane is after a plane crash so don't think there's much chance of a repeat performance of last year ....

Take care...

The Canucks are like that child that only a mother could love. 55 years of undying love for a hopeless child. The slogan should be, instead of ‘onward and upward’ - Backward and Downward
