Didn’t we get a backup goalie for that guy a year ago?
Didn’t the twitterverse say it was a bad deal for us?
Now he can’t get a contract in the offseason?

Lots of prospects can work their way into the "replacement level" category -- the 4th liner, the extra forward, the 6-8 defense. When it is your team's guy there, you think that prospect is a success because they are playing in the NHL. But the thing is, these players are available for at or near league minimum every summer; a prospect who gets to that level but is unlikely to get much higher is in the same general bucket as a couple hundred (or more) players. These prospects are a success in terms of mom and dad are proud, but not meaningfully from a team's perspective. To be sure, every team thinks that some of these guys are a little better than others -- untapped potential, fits with the style of play, etc. -- but in the broad scheme of things, very few of these guys, will significantly break out of this replacement level category. Teams (GM's) try their best to find those replacement level guys who can be replacement +1 (or more), and/or find the guys that meet the teams needs the best (take on a project, reliable vet, guy who checks, guy who skates, etc.). But think about all of the guys that the Canucks have signed that meet the replacement level valuation. Dakota Joshua went from replacement to "replacement +" last year. Anyone else in the past decade? I don't think so, but I could be forgetting. In the organization, *maybe* Juulsen can get there, but as of now, every team has a Juulsen or three. Maybe Brannstrom can (if not claimed -- though I am very skeptical). Anyone the Canucks lost that aren't findable cheap on the market? I don't think so.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 10:32 amFuck.. Some around here were saying a couple of those boys were the second coming of christ... Yeah, that’s a good one; I’d forgotten about him. But still, last season was the first he cracked 15 minutes a night, and then just barely. But he’s more of a 5 than a 6; arguably a 4-5. And then he played admirably in the playoffs. He’s a little better than the top league min tweener RD acquisition the Canucks made that off-season they didn’t stick with Chatfield (Juulsen).5thhorseman wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 4:37 pmChatfieldUWSaint wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:52 amDakota Joshua went from replacement to "replacement +" last year. Chek TV’s Rick Dhaliwal appeared on Sportsnet 650’s Halford and Brough on Friday morning and shared some details on how the contract negotiations between Zadorov’s camp and the Canucks went this offseason. To preface this, Zadorov was on a podcast saying that he wanted to stay in Vancouver, but by the end of it, it just didn’t work out, and he felt a little bit disrespected.
“Zadorov and agent Dan Milstein 100% wanted to re-sign in Vancouver, so contract talks started before the playoffs. The Canucks made an offer of four years at $4.6 million per year. I believe Zadorov was looking for that fifth year. Term was the big issue, not money. [The] Canucks wouldn’t budge on four years. Milstein was pushing hard for that fifth year. He wasn’t even negotiating money; it was all about that fifth year. He was negotiating term, not money. This is, again, before the playoffs. The Canucks would not go to that fifth year.
“So they said, alright, playoffs are starting, we’re not there, let’s restart talks after the playoffs. Fast forward [to] after the playoffs, and we’re into, guess what? The NHL draft and July 1st. And guess what? The Canucks still haven’t signed Zadorov. Clearly, at that time, the Canucks number one target was Jake Guentzel. Guentzel’s rights were being traded by the Hurricanes, a bunch of teams, including Vancouver, were in on him. I believe Zadorov never felt that he was their number one guy or the priority.
“At the end, the Canucks did make an offer with the fifth year to Zadorov. But it was too late, and it was rejected. So, when they started targeting Guentzel and others, that’s where you get [the], ‘I felt disrespected’ comment, most likely. After everything I’ve gathered this week, it’s from that. So the Canucks can’t blame anyone but themselves. Zadorov and Milstein tried their best to stay. This was fumbled at the end, this wasn’t fumbled at the beginning.”

What a baby!
I thought Zaddy was being a bit of a baby with the recent comments about him feeling disrespected with our mgmt, but if this report is true, then I can kinda sympathize from his standpoint. I don't think I'd do the $5M X 6 he got with Boston, but if he were willing to sign here @ say $4.5M X 5, I think I'd bring him back. I'd rather use that money to sign a D-man like him over a winger like Debrusk. Heck, I liked what Zaddy brings more to the team than Hronek.Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 12:14 pm If this story is true it's kind of disappointing.
