Lol......pretty sure he'd define that loss differently in his myopic little existence.

Bob won that one clearly.

Panthers need to be better than that.

Yep. And it wasn’t just the Oilers’ top line making it happen. All of their lines were rolling last night.

However, that was not the same Panthers team that we have seen all season and through the playoffs to this point.

They played like the Canucks…..they didn’t come to take the game to Edmonton, but rather to try not to let McDavid and Draisaitl take the game from them.

I will say that Knoblauch seems to be quite adept and making little changes to counter opponents zone entry and PP tendencies, as well as pick up on things like Silovs struggling with the outside shots through traffic. Not many coaches seem to do that. It’s always “stick to our game and we will eventually breakthrough”…..but not with him. He prefers to exploit chinks in armour rather than throw wave upon wave of troops like fodder against an impenetrable wall.

We can only hope that his history with McDavid remains the constant. No championship.

He appears unafraid to make in game line up amendments earlier than some as well.

Seems a pretty decent coach.

Maurice holds very high praise for him from historical interactions.

....we drafted Nedved the same year as the Pens got this guy.

I was reading somewhere that Jags really wanted to play with Super Mario, so he said some stuff to make other teams nervous about drafting him.

https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nhl/h ... -his-favor
I found out years later that when he was interviewed by teams ahead of us, he told them all that he wasn't coming over [to the NHL] right away,

When we asked him that question, he said 'I'll be there tomorrow if you draft me.' I think other teams backed off because of that. We were happy he was there. We were surprised he was there, definitely.
- Craig Patrick (Pens GM who drafted Jaromir Jagr)

I heard Brian Burke really wanted Jagr and was pushing for him, but I think Jagr told Patty Quinn and Nucks mgmt that he didn't intend to defect to the NHL anytime soon. Quinn prob kinda wanted a young centre to build around and Nedved put up some huge pts in Seattle, so he went with the safe pick. I think even at the time, Nedvid admitted that Jags was a better player than him. :?

Two things the Oilers PK is doing that they weren’t earlier in the year…..

One is sending the forward hard at the point with his stick in the middle of the ice. Now most teams send the forward that way, but Edmonton isn’t directly attacking the point man with the puck, the are going up the face off dot lane to apply pressure while making a cross point pass very very dangerous. This is forcing the pass back to the half-boards where the Oiler defenseman is already close to pressure that man.

This other is the 4 man mob at the blueline that very effectively prevents controlled zone entry. Florida is trying to carry it in 1-on-3 with the 4th Edmonton PK’er dropping back towards the slot.

It’s high risk, high reward.

Florida needs to make an adjustment to that point rush and they will expose the PK overload badly. They also need to switch to something closer to dump and chase. Send 4 skaters over the line full speed at the same time as the puck and make the PK turn and chase it.

Vancouver failed to do both of those things. Florida will lose this series if they don’t adjust. I fear that old school coaches like Maurice will come up short against a younger coach who is more flexible.

How many games does Draisaitl get?

That's got to be worth at least two.
