Roberto and Gina wanted out long before he was traded. The Cheesburgular fucked up the first trade, pulling all the decent picks off the table at the last minute. Had fuck all to do with Eye Bags.

All that said Eye Bags, although getting a good return for both goalies, did manage to make a mess of things. The recapture penalty is garbage but the dog and pony show for two years is on Gillis.

SKYO wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2020 11:38 am Just to chime in on Gillis fiasco dealing with Luongo:
MG: "We decided to create a culture that was borne out of science," Gillis said of Vancouver's solution to the travel challenge facing west-coast franchises.
"
Science? come on...
Gillis shared an interesting sports science note about Luongo, a surefire Hall of Famer. The recently retired netminder dealt with "a degree of performance anxiety" and, based off his hormone levels, the club would notice him go through "almost a physical change" ahead of certain games.

"We were always trying to figure out a way to get him over that hurdle," Gillis said. "We went to a lot of different places and talked to a lot of different people ... He's a really sensitive guy with a great sense of humor, and his sense of humor would go away and his sensitivity would increase."
On several occasions Friday, Gillis mentioned that leaders are made, not born.
Gillis knew he was a emotional guy, yet....

A good read on how Mike Gillis threw out two franchise goalies and his inability to handle the goalie situation:

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/gauging ... ing-luongo

2012 playoffs after two President trophies:
Charron: "And, come on. Has Luongo been the problem for the team? With 65 shots against and just 4 goals, to be even in this series, you’re counting on your goaltender to have a .938 save percentage just to be tied through two games. Luongo’s even strength save percentage is at .951, his problems resulting from poor goal support, five-on-five defence and an atrocious powerplay."

Nonetheless, head coach Alain Vigneault (whose goaltending decisions necessitated Gillis’ input) opted for Schneider in game 3 despite insisting that “being down 2-0 is not a reflection of the goaltending we’ve had“.

A week later, the Canucks were out of the playoffs and Schneider assumed the role of number one goaltender (signing a 3 year/$12M extension on June 29).
Then Gillis made a mockery of Lu and mishandling the situation again after that. They lost in the playoffs and MG said:
After being swept in four games, Gillis declared it “unlikely” that Luongo would be back,
....7 weeks later - Trades Schneider! lol

Luongo shocked obviously after Gillis made it abundantly clear Luongo was not his man.....but the new CBA changed his opinion:
When did Mike Gillis know he was trading goalie Cory Schneider rather than Roberto Luongo?
“Right after the CBA was ratified,” MG said.
and so MG got the owners to meet Lu - as Gillis is a pussy and knew Lu probably hated his guts at this point...
Duthie: Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini came to Luongo's house in Florida and told him about the Schneider trade moments before it was announced.
He came back and Torts sits him out the heritage classic, boom he's done - two days later traded
Luongo: "I thought my contract was untradeable. Just when I was starting to let my guard down, the trade happens. Go figure.
MG done in Vancouver shortly after.
Excellent post, and look at all this homework edgelord would be proud. Agree benning has a tough road ahead with the goaltending.

I’m not sure Benning has a tough road. He has a 30 year old bonafide #1 goalie with fairly low miles on the odometer. He desperately wants to stay here and will probably signs somewhat team friendly deal. He’s extremely popular and a team leader. Demko has another year to develop and bump his value up a bit. We have nice depth in goal. That’s a good thing

Francesco Aquilini very likely not blameless. I think an, "Any way you can", may have come into the equation. Guessing, of course. :mex:

I’m talking more on making the call on demko, I think marky can anchor the number 1 position for 4 years without to much issue. I guess it all depends on dipietro. It sucks though because we sunk a lot of development time into both guys and losing one (possible for nothing to Seattle) is gonna suck especially cause goalies don’t hold great trade value.

Maybe if there’s no compliance buyout, Demko could be attached to Sutter and fetch a nice pick back. No retention. Or he can play another year and keep improving then he may be tradebait after or during the the next season.

Not to mention the cap implications.

I like what aaron18 said back in Oct. 2018 about Demko:

Lancer wrote: Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:37 pm Honestly, we have what we have between the pipes - like it or lump it. Until our blueline gets better, I wouldn't throw Demko to the wolves this season, not even as a backup.
I disagree, I don't think it's throwing him to the wolves. There's no expectations this season, just to get younger and develop. Demko has a history of struggling when he makes the jump to the next level but because he's more of a student of the game he works hard and figures out what he needs to do in order to succeed.

I think you ease him in, let him get a bunch of shots and chances. It could make him a better NHL goalie in the long run!
Took a couple years but Demko has now learned a lot this past season. Had 2 1/2 years in the AHL, had some NHL time in 2018/19 and now a full season in the NHL...he's developing at a fine pace to be a #1 pretty damn quick. Not to mention having some of the best goaltending coaches in the game help him along the way in Rollie (the goalie whisperer, intense), Cloutier (the more calm) and now Clark with his goalie teaching masters.

I figure Demko just needs another year in a 1A/1B & then 2022 he'll be a #1 goalie in the league at a manageable cap hit for the next while.

Demko is developing a faster/better rate than Markstrom has and likely will have a better career overall in stats and who knows how the playoffs go, who has the more mental toughness to rise up in that occasion. Demko to me has that natural calmness in net to settle the game down, which could bode well in the playoffs. Marky has the temper that's gets the best of him at times.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

The Gillis bullshit that Skyo pointed out happened long before exGMMG tried that trade to Toronto (April, 2013).

And I said that Gillis was responsible for the Dog and Pony show. The glutton Cheeseburgular pulled a scummy move on his former team at the 2013 deadline. And it blew up in his fat triple chinned face.

Yes well you see, you were saying Luongo was unhappy in Vancouver before exGMMG screwed Lou around. Quote:

"Had fuck all to do with Eye Bags"

I pointed out Skyo was right and you were wrong... and your response was to try to gloss over that fact.

Therefore I hereby reiterate that the combination of those two acts on your part does in fact make you a jackass. :mex:
